The game has been called both transphobic and racist

Some communities have raised concerns that the game is trying to profit from exploiting the trans community by trying to be ‘edgy’. This extends the public outcry that the developer, CD Project, received when they joked about assuming gender on Twitter and later had to apologize to all those offended. Katarzyna Redesiuk, the artist that created the in-game poster that is the focus of the discussion, says that the poster was actually a criticism of advertising and the use of a body to sell an object, thus becoming an object herself.

Not edgy enough

The game is poised to display a dystopian future akin to Blade Runner, with mega corporations who run everything, neon lights and plenty of cybernetic improvements, connecting human with technology. For the most part, it seems like the game really tries hard to set itself apart from similar games – in particular Watch dogs, which many have compared it with. The mass use of cussing throughout the game for shock value is cool at first, but quickly becomes a bit crude and unnecessary. Hopefully there will be more focus on incorporating cussing and sex elements into the story mode without making it seem like it is there just for shock value. There is also a few racial stereotypes that one would assume the developers would try and stay clear of – and they have to a certain degree. One of the gangs is a Haitian gang called the ‘Voodoo Boys’. Surprisingly enough, it is mostly made up by mostly white boys.

But then again, who is to say what is correct? It is the vision of the team that ought to matter. The game will be up for debate regarding its portrayal of the future and the culture and economic situation they depict. But their guess is as good as anyone’s, isn’t it?

Only single player

Cyberpunk 2077 is only going to be a single player RPG and with many players becoming used to massive multiplayer universes, this might not be great news for everyone. There will be, however, a multiplayer mode of some sorts in time, but currently all focus is on perfecting the single player version of the game which take first place.

Guns mechanics

From the demo videos that have so far surfaced, the shooting in Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be a bit tame compared to many other games. It looks very clunky and impacts from bullet only affect the health bar. It does not look like there is any limping or impaired shooting abilities to be found from the demos.

Cussing

Oh the cussing. Yes, we already went over this as part of one of the other points, but it really gets to you after a while. Neighbors will end up thinking you are having a throw down with your significant other. The shock value fades off after a while and it ends up seeming bit silly that everyone in the future is this crude. Hopefully it will make more sense as you play through the game – and worst-case scenario, you can turn on the kiddie filter.
