A Week In The Hub: 25th-31st January 2015

Another week has passed in the land of Xbox, but which were the real big stories that can’t be missed? Let us take you through the very best ones and give an opinion or two.

It’s still a reasonably quiet time of year for game releases but we saw a few appear on both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 game stores. Unmechanical: Extended is now ready for your downloading pleasure, bringing the original Unmechanical puzzle game plus a new story and new puzzles to the new generation. We’ve already had the pleasure of spending some time with it and you can read our thoughts in the full review just here.

If a full on puzzler isn’t your cup of tea, then you may like to go back in time and experience the horror-survival title that kicked off a generation. Resident Evil is back, fully HD’d-up with some delightful visuals and most importantly, a new control system. Hardcore fans of the franchise will no doubt love what is being served up to them, but we’re a little concerned that gaming may just have moved on a little too far for all the others out there. Anyways, our review will give you the lowdown and should help you decide on whether a purchase is for you.

Our third review of the week focused firmly on racing. Riptide GP2 sees you hop aboard some super quick rocket powered hydro jets. It’s super cheap and James tells you why a download of Vector Units game should give you a splashing good time!

Feel that £3.99 is too much to pay for a new game? How about you check out the full announcement regarding the Xbox Games With Gold promotion for February. We’ve already known that #IDARB would be given away for free to Xbox One owners (it’s available now btw!), but 360 gamers will again have access to two free titles. Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons will be the first title stripped of its price, with Sniper Elite V2 swiftly following. All in all, a good month for both One and 360 owners.

The last week hasn’t been short of great news stories either. We all knew the Havoc DLC was coming for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare and finally that is now here; dare you take on the Exo Zombies? Or how about taking a bit of free content for Battlefield 4? It may be a year old title, but EA Access members are now able to grab a piece of free DLC for it. You’ll have to be quick though, as it’s only available for a limited time. Of course, you could just wait until the Battlefield: Hardline beta kicks off for your shooting kicks. Not long now!

Let me leave you this week with the news that TT Games are bringing a couple more LEGO titles to our beloved Xbox’s. LEGO Marvel Avengers and LEGO Jurassic World will be coming in 2015 and should be something to keep a look out for.

Oh, and lets not forget to watch the bloody superb Dying Light launch trailer. The game is out now (digitally anyways) and it’s rather damn good!

See ya!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
