A Week In The Hub: 8th-14th March 2015

Barely a week goes by at the moment without a decent amount of news and reviews to gander at for both Xbox One and Xbox 360. So, with that being said, let’s see what have been the standouts in the last seven days.

Might as well start with the bittersweet news that emerged from Slightly Mad Studios where it was revealed there was yet another delay for Project CARS. Fans looking forward to this potential rival to Forza Motorsport will have to wait till mid-May now, yes we know it’s disappointing but if it means the game can be more polished then so be it. The slightly sweeter side to that bitter news was the follow up announcement of the identity of four new tracks that we didn’t know were going be in the game. Oh and we mustn’t forget the rather awesome looking trailer below focussing on the Qualifying sessions within Project CARS…

From one racing game to another, Forza Horizon 2 is giving its players a downloadable car pack absolutely free. They will be releasing a set of four Mazda MX-5 cars rather soon and one of the cars is making a digital debut, so you won’t want to miss that. And while we’re on the subject of free stuff, Respawn Entertainment wanted to celebrate the one year anniversary of Titanfall with a bang. They’ve made the Season Pass free, hence giving free access to all the map packs, which is a great way to get everyone back playing this fast paced shooter.

Everyone recognises the name of the most brutal beat-em-up franchise Mortal Kombat, hence there must be a few excited gamers out there wanting to know more about Mortal Kombat X. This is where the latest video comes in, centred on the Cage family it’s a cool little insight into their dysfunctional relationships and we reckon Cassie Cage could be a great fighter to use. Also revealed this week was a few details on the Kombat Pack which will bring with it four playable characters including Jason Voorhees!

It hasn’t all just been about games that are coming soon though; we’ve seen a fair amount of new games hit the Xbox Store to buy right now. There was Team17’s latest title L.A. Cops, the long awaited Jet Car Stunts, the third episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 and the highly anticipated Ori and the Blind Forest. To help you decide on L.A. Cops feel free to read our rather positive review, and don’t worry we’ll have reviews for the rest very soon too.

Speaking of reviews, we can’t leave you without mentioning the others we’ve written for some light reading before you make any important purchasing decisions. Early on in the week we gave our thoughts in a review for the intriguing Pneuma – Breathe of Life, it’s safe to say that it left us rather frustrated at times. Things weren’t much better in the Don Bradman Cricket review where we often got bored and the online was a real mess.

On the flipside we had the delightful Shiftlings (review) which taught us that even the simplest sounding USPs can make a game stand out if it’s delivered properly. The creativity found here helps it be a top little puzzler. And that brings us to our highest rated review of the week in the form of the Pinball FX2 Iron & Steel Pack. Zen Studios thrived with the ideas they’ve in put into their own original tables.

That concludes our round-up, we hope something took your fancy and we’ll see you in another week!

Been gaming casually since the SNES as a youngster but found my true passion for games on the Playstation 1 (the forbidden word ooo). My addiction grew to its pinnacle with the purchase of an Xbox 360 & Xbox Live Service. A recovering GS hunter that will still play literally any game.
