ARK: Survival Evolved has, well, evolved, ever since it first arrived as an early access title, building month on month to become a bit of a monster. Now though Studio Wildcard are back with a brand new expansion – Aberration!
From today the world of ARK has got much bigger as the second expansion pack for Survival Evolved has gone live. ‘Aberration’ is set in a maze of elaborate underground caves in which we’ll get to hide from the intense sun that has turned the surface of ARK into an irradiated hellscape. But away from the bright lights we get to discover dozens of new creatures, a huge new storyline and more than 50 items to craft.
Aberration Descripition:
Waking up on ‘Aberration’ – a derelict, malfunctioning ARK featuring an elaborate underground biome system filled with new challenges unlike those found on prior ARKmaps. Extreme radioactive sunlight, earthquakes, and environmental hazards, ziplines, wingsuits, climbing gear, fantastical creatures like the Rock Drake and Basilisk, and more await survivors throughout these vast caverns. Beware the ‘Nameless’: unrelenting, Element-infused humanoids, which have evolved into vicious light-hating creatures, and the Reapers, massive alien monstrosities which can impregnate foes to spawn their offspring!
Features of the Aberration Expansion include:
- Tame New Creatures: The intense radiation of Aberration has led to incredible genetic mutations, resulting in dozens of new creatures with amazing abilities! Clamber up walls & glide through the air on the back of a camouflaging chameleon-like ‘Rock Drake’, keep the dark at bay with one of four friendly ‘Lantern Pets’, or grab and toss multiple creatures simultaneously with a massive ‘Cave Crustacean’, or — if you are brave enough – allow the horrific “Reaper Queen” to impregnate you, and spawn a vicious male Reaper alien lifeform you can tame and control.
- Craft 50+ Unique Items: Use cave-climbing picks, gliding wingsuits, and ziplines to traverse this new ARK. Learn advanced engrams to dominate the harsh environment, protect yourself with hazmat outfits, charge lanterns, flashbangs, batteries, glowsticks, railguns and much more. Thrive by gathering new resources, using fishing baskets, gas collectors, fortify your home within the caverns using cliff structures, and much more!

Aberration is free to enter if you are an ARK season pass owner, whilst those who are not will need to spend $19.99. It’s available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC/Steam.
Anybody know what the 40 GB update was for on Xbox One? I didn’t purchase the expansion so I’m curious what is in this huge update that seems to correlate with the release of aberration.
I believe it’s to do with the aberration. Destiny 1 did it when the content came out for that and everyone who owned it regardless of owning DLC or not had to download. From what i understand (could be wrong) the new content is downloaded regardless and as it also brings new fixes and stuff like that to the rest of the game, and then access to the new content it is just locked away behind actually owning the license.
