Astroneer now available as a Game Preview title on Xbox One

For many, the Xbox Game Preview program is a way of allowing gamers to help shape a final product, giving the developer the necessary knowledge and insight into how to make their game the best it can be. Today, that preview program has seen an increase in its numbers, with the awesome looking Astroneer becoming available.

Available right now either as a free trial or a full on £15.74 download, Astroneer lets you explore – and reshape – the most distant of worlds. You’ll get the chance to explore outer space, taking risks as you attempt to harness the harsh environment in order to gather resources and strike it rich. Alteration of the terrain plays a big part in the Astroneer’s mechanics and you can shape a whole load of world just like it was Play-Doh.

You’ll also need to build and craft new tools, vehicles and more, travel to other planets and moons and basically become a full on astronaut.

What’s not to like? Well, the only downside we see at the moment comes in the form that the game is not a finished product, and so you need to be aware that it may change considerably over time. But then, if you are one of those who like to help out, then you should be heading off to the Xbox Games Store and checking it out. Pronto.

Game Description:

This game is a work in progress. It may or may not change over time or release as a final product. Purchase only if you are comfortable with the current state of the unfinished game. Explore and reshape distant worlds! Astroneer is set during a 25th century gold rush where players must explore the frontiers of outer space, risking their lives and resources in harsh environments for the chance of striking it rich. On this adventure, a player’s most useful tool is their ability to shape their world, altering the terrain and extracting valuable resources from planets, and moons. Resources can be traded or crafted into new tools, vehicles, and modules to create everything from massive industrial bases to mobile rover bases. -Reshape and shape terrain as though it were made of Play-Doh. -Explore procedurally generated planets that can entirely deformed and traversed. -Build a spaceship and travel to new planets and moons. -Snap together components and objects to create custom vehicles and modules. -4 player online drop-in/drop-out co-op. Full details on the latest status of the game, how you can give feedback and report issues can be found at http://astroneer.space.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
