Behold, for yet another gameplay trailer for Call of Cthulhu, the official video game adaptation of the tabletop RPG from Chaosium, has arrived. An in-depth look at the skills you can posses has also been unveiled. Are you prepared to delve further into the Darkwater investigation and journey towards madness?
Throughout Private Investigator Edward Pierce’s quest to unveil the truth, amidst the unsettling conspiracies about the place, players must rely on a variety of upgradeable skills to escape the clutches of madness and death in Call of Cthulhu.
The Spot Hidden and Investigation skill paths, for example, allow players to uncover more clues and draw more meaningful conclusions, unlocking more topics to question in dialogues. Convincing the distrustful locals in Darkwater to reveal what they know will require proficiency in Eloquence and Psychology skills. Pierce’s Strength skill may also come in handy for when brute force is necessary, or to intimidate impressionable people into loosening their tongue. Expertise in Medicine and Occultism, will grant addition insight, and this is improved by discovering unique books and artifacts whilst investigating. Knowledge can be a curse in Call of Cthulhu though, as the more aware Pierce is made of the horrors that dwell beyond the fabrics of reality, the more he will fall to insanity, thus impeding his ability to think logically to make conclusions.
What’s clear from the newest trailer is that he’ll have to draw upon all of these skills in order to tread the fine line between sanity and madness, as well as approaching certain situations from a stealthy point of view. Don’t forget, he’s a mere mortal up against foes beyond comprehension and will often be outnumbered in this rather unfriendly environment, so subterfuge and stealth could be the only option. You won’t be able to escape the gaze of the Great Dreamer though!
Call of Cthulhu is set to release for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on 30th October.
