Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath – Tales from the Xbox One Beta
Diablo has a lot to answer for, at least if you judge it by the amount of games that have released recently that appear to pay homage to Blizzard’s seminal title. In the recent past, we've had Victor Vran, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard and Van Helsing, all of which bear more than a passing resemblance to the gameplay style pioneered by the Diablo range of games. The latest to appear, in beta form at least, on the Xbox One is Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile. And if there’s a more appropriate name for a studio developing a Diablo style loot crawling game I don't know what it might be!

Fortnite – Thoughts and impressions from The Storm
Fortnite is a strange game to try to explain in a single sentence. It’s a base building, objective defending, team based craft and shooter with strategy elements. I think. It’s been out in alpha and beta form on the PC for a couple of years, and now it’s the turn of Xbox One players to get involved, thanks to its introduction as a Game Preview title.

Ghost of a Tale Hands-on Preview
Although it’s been around for a few years now, Early Access on Xbox One still doesn’t feel right. I’m not entirely sure why, but given that some of my favourite games have come through the program, it probably isn't something I should be criticising. But the general feel of playing a game in an unfinished state, whilst slumped on the sofa, is something that will likely take a few more years of getting used to.
Nevertheless, new additions continue to be added to the Xbox Game Preview program and with my intrigue never failing to get the best of me, I jumped into the newest addition, Ghost of a Tale, to see if this was another cracking title that we should all be keeping an eye on.

Aven Colony Hands-On Preview
When Team17 put their name to something, it's usually nailed on as being something a bit decent. And that is the plan with Mothership Entertainment’s Aven Colony.

Jump Stars Hands-On Preview
I first had the chance to go hands-on with Jump Stars way back in 2015. At the time, it was a fairly basic affair. It did however have a whole ton of potential. Now, in 2017, two whole years after I first clapped eyes on it, the development team at Jamit Games and their publishers, Curve Digital, are preparing the full launch of Jump Stars. I’ve been lucky enough to have had the chance to go hands-on with the game for the last few weeks, and from what has been played, the initial potential that hit me first time round is fast becoming a reality.

Tokyo 42 Hands-On Preview
Tokyo 42 was announced towards the back end of 2016 and immediately grabbed the attention of gamers with its unique and highly stylised aesthetic. Its isometric view of Tokyo and its rooftops really do make the game stand out from others available.
The game is all set to launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC on 31st May and for many people, the aesthetics are enough to warrant the purchase of £15.99. But for those yet to decide, what else does it offer?

Portal Knights – Hands-on Preview
It’s quite a daunting thing to do, taking part in a hands-on preview of a game. Doing Portal Knights, for example, you walk into an office boardroom, with a projector screen and three developers looking at you. They are waiting for you to play their game that they have worked and slaved over for many years. It’s like giving someone a Christmas present while watching them open it, and looking for any hints or signs of displeasure in their face. Thankfully, the people from Keen Games and 505 Games don’t make you feel anxious and are generally so enthralled with their new game Portal Knights, that all you have to do is relax and enjoy the experience.

Yooka-Laylee – A quick history lesson and Hands-On Preview!
Yooka-Laylee is a game that feels like it needs no introduction, having been front and centre of a certain generation of gamers’ minds for over two years since its Kickstarter announcement back in May 2015. For the un-informed though, a quick history lesson is needed.

88 Heroes Hands-On Preview
88 Heroes is a 2D action-platforming game with… 88 heroes. Well, heroes is perhaps a little too kind. You’ll play as a wide variety (88, in fact) of largely useless “superheroes” to stop Dr. H8 from annihilating the Earth with 88 thermo-nuclear warheads. Oh, and you have only 88 minutes to do so.

Astroneer – Hands-On Xbox One Preview
After a few experiences with games in their pre-release forms, I’ve learnt to lower my expectations for preview games. At first, it’s a strange concept: playing a game that’s not finished. And if not approached correctly, a pre-release experience can give you a totally warped impression of a game. The trick is seeing potential. You’ve got to look at the game for what it’s going to be instead of what it is right now.
So imagine my shock when I booted up Astroneer and found a game that – even in its pre-alpha state – was addictive and refined.
