It’s been so long that it’s probably come as a bit of a surprise to many that Crackdown 3 is finally here for all to bask in its exciting, exhilarating, explosion-fuelled glory. Today is the day Crackdown 3 is a reality.
In Crackdown 3, you, as the infamous Agent, have been tasked with entering the neon sci-fi city of New Providence to take down a threat larger than you have ever experienced before. Terra Nova, the wide-scale multi-operational mafia syndicate, is slowly taking over the city, setting up compounds and boss HQs in order to assert their dominance and control over all who inhabit the area.
In true Crackdown fashion, it falls upon you to gradually level up your own character with the latest in combat and traversal skills, and slowly but surely take back New Providence from evil clutches. Of course, as you would expect, you will mostly be doing this by heading into compounds and bases, proceeding to blow the smithereens out of anything and everything you lay your eyes on!
Utilising the new ‘Gangs Bite Back’ system will make this task slightly more tactical, as taking down certain areas and crime figures will see the gangs retaliate – you may even be able to draw out a mob Boss so you don’t have to hunt them down.
When you aren’t finding yourself progressing through the story, it’ll be a good idea to make use of the returning ‘Skills for Kills’ system, in which the more weapons you use, and the different ways you perform kills, will see you rewarded with those infamous Crackdown orbs – the life-blood for upgrading your core skills.
Multiplayer-wise and there are two primary ways in which you can enjoy the fun of Crackdown 3 with a friend. Firstly, you may wish to explore the open-world and campaign with an online coop buddy, or if it is competitive action you desire then the new Wrecking Zone mode should suffice – eventually. In this, you will go up against others in order to reap the most destruction and win the game. Here everything is fully-destructible and with the Xbox One X Enhanced visuals the fire and smoke looks just that little bit better: let your Agents go mad and you will be well rewarded.
For Xbox Game Pass members, Crackdown 3 is now available to download for no extra charge, but if you aren’t a Game Pass subscriber then you’ll find Crackdown 3 on Xbox One available from the Xbox Store for £49.99. It can also be played on PC as Crackdown 3 is an Xbox Play Anywhere title.
