It was first announced during the early Battle Royale moments of 2017, before making the most of the Xbox Game Preview and Steam Early Access routes a year later. Now though, after embracing some free-to-play love in the process, Darwin Project is breaking out of Game Preview to launch for real on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Going up against the mighty PUBG and Fortnite is no easy matter, but the team behind Darwin Project on Xbox One, PS4 and PC – they of Scavengers Studio – obviously know what they are doing. And after embracing the Game Preview scene and allowing player feedback to help shape their game, it’s now that they’ve decided the time is right to hit the big time – with a full game launch.

Darwin Project is a Battle Royale title with a difference as players get the chance to work their way through a more futuristic setting than ever before. With the usual Battle Royale styled deathmatch holding things together, in Darwin Project you’ll not only find yourself going up against the usual rivals – making the most of hunting, trapping and utilising survival skills in the process – but will also have to deal with the all-seeing eye, the Show Director.

It is this player who runs things in Darwin Project, dictating how the show flows, adding in elements as and when they see fit. Thanks to the use of a camera drone, the Director will be able to turn the tide of the match in an instant, placing restrictions or targeting certain players that they take a dislike for.

Should you have previously helped shape the way for Darwin Project then you’ll find your game up and running without fuss nor bother. However, if this is the first time you’ve ever heard of the latest Royale kid on the block and fancy getting involved, head on over to your favoured digital store and grab the download. As a free-to-play title, the Xbox Store will easily sort you out with a download, and it’ll also provide access to all manner of additional premium goodies too:

  • Ramen Snack – £1.69
  • Ramen Dinner – £8.39
  • Ramen Binge – £16.74
  • Supporter Pack – £16.74
  • Ramen Stockpile – £33.49

Make sure you keep an eye out for our full review of Darwin Project on Xbox One soon. Should you wish to know even more, then you may find a bit of relevant info in our previous hands-on with the game. Just be aware, much can change in a couple of years or so.

Game Description:

Featuring arcade style third-person combat, the fighting system is at once primal, with the main weapons being an axe and bow, and futuristic with powers such as teleportation and energy shields. The twist is the addition of a Show Director, a player character that runs the show, spicing things up or balancing as need be. BATTLE ROYALE & SURVIVAL Darwin Project is an intense 10 player battle royale which takes place in the snowy Canadian Rocky mountains. Players must first conquer the cold, crafting fires and warm clothing; then find clues, lay traps, and hunt down the other contestants. To be the last inmate standing, players use combat, crafting, tracking, and their personality. ESHOW : THE SHOW DIRECTOR TAKES CONTROL OF THE GAME In each match, one player takes on the role of the Show Director who oversees the arena from above in a camera drone. The Director dashboard includes a suite of tools which allow them to give the underdog an unexpected edge or turn the tables on a particularly bloodthirsty contestant by summoning a gravity storm, restricting zones, or unleashing a Manhunt that reveals a player’s position in the arena.
