The Fallout series is certainly one of the biggest series in the world of gaming, after all, if my Nanna has heard of it and knows what it is, then chances are it’s a household name for you and me. Therefore, the news of a new arrival in the apocalyptic franchise is always going to be big news amongst the gaming community. Well today brings huge news.
You see, today we are being told about the arrival of the critically acclaimed Fallout Shelter on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC via the Xbox Play Anywhere scheme this Tuesday, February 7th.
For those not currently in the know, the mobile sensation, Fallout Shelter is a free-to-play simulation/management game that was released on IOS devices at the end of E3 back in June 2015. Since that point it has made its way to Android devices via the Google Play Store and has gained an exceptionally large fan base with its engaging gameplay and intricate art style.
In Fallout Shelter, you take control of building and managing your own vault. As Overseer, it’s up to you to guide and direct the citizens of your vault in their everyday activities, as well as managing their needs such as hunger, water, power and happiness. As you build your vault, wasteland dwellers will arrive at your door, and as Overseer it’s up to you to welcome these people to your vault and turn them into helpful, respectful and well looked after citizens of your shelter. Through hard work and clever management, players can raise the S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats of their fellow vault dwellers, in turn making your vault stronger and the individuals within much better at what they do.
Management is at the core of everything you do in Fallout Shelter, with food, resources and power at the centre of what’s important, however, things can go wrong and people can become unhappy meaning disasters can happen, and doing the right thing for one person can often end up in unhappiness from other citizens.
To avoid disasters players can of course take up the option of the in-game micro-transactions but this is in no way needed to ensure progression in Fallout Shelter, and whilst they can certainly aid players a time of need there is no reason that with the right choices you can’t fix things without the need for expense.
So, for fans of all things Fallout, head on over to the Xbox Games Store this Tuesday, February 7th to grab your free download of Fallout Shelter, and protect your citizens from the dangers of the wasteland, For you are the Overseer.
…and we won’t forget to remind you!
Good that it’s coming to Xbox for those interested in it, but after trying it out on my phone following all the hype I’ll be passing on this. Found it pretty tedious and about as far removed from Fallout as you can probably get whilst still retaining the Fallout name.
