Get a new retro fighting fix with ACA Neogeo Samurai Shodown V

-

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times – there seems to be an endless stream of Neogeo titles attempting to draw in the modern day gamer. And whilst we should never be found complaining about the opportunity to take in new games, the constant re-release of titles from decades gone past is slowly getting to silly heights.

But hey, let’s not worry too much about how the digital libraries around the globe are getting filled with retro feasts, and instead focus on the latest game to make the hop from Neogeo to Xbox One – that of ACA NEOGEO Samurai Shodown V.

It was back in May 2017 when us Xbox One gamers first saw the arrival of Samurai Shodown, with the first title promising much in the way of fighting glory. That was fast followed by the sequel in September, with the third game in the series dropping in Feb 2018. 1996’s Samurai Shodown IV arrived in April to boost the Neogeo library even more, before we finally get to where we are now with the fifth game in the franchise – that of ACA NEOGEO Samurai Shodown V.

But what does this bring that the others did not? Well, having first been released in 2003, the time gap between 4 and 5 – that of 7 years – should ensure that things have moved on well in the Samurai stakes. With the likes of Yoshitora Tokugawa, Mina Majikina and more arriving on the scene to ensure the roster hit 24 fighters, and new Sword Guage and Concentration features included, if you have been left wanting by previous games in the series, then this is certainly one to think about.

The usual more modern global leaderboards and difficulty setting amendments are again in place with Shodown V and so should you be looking for a new fighter, and are happy to embrace the retroness that this brings, then the Xbox Store should be your next port of call. £6.39 is all you need to find.

Game Description:

SAMURAI SHODOWN V is a fighting game released by SNK in 2003. Yoshitora Tokugawa, Mina Majikina and more join the cast of twenty-four warriors. New systems available include the Sword Gauge and Concentration One, for even more sword-swinging action. The “ACA NEOGEO” series has faithfully reproduced many classic NEOGEO masterpieces. Players can change various game settings such as game difficulty, and also reproduce the atmosphere of arcade display settings at that time. Players can also compete against each other from all over the world with their high scores. Please enjoy the masterpiece that built a generation for video games. *This title is based off the MVS (NEOGEO for arcades) version. There may be differences between this version and the versions for the home NEOGEO console and other home consoles.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
