Head to 12th Century England as Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth Part 1 launches on Xbox One

Known for their point ā€˜nā€™ click adventure titles, Daedalic Entertainment are embarking on their most ambitious project yet – the three part interactive novel, Pillars of the Earth, the first part of which has launched today.

A video-game adaptation of the Ken Follett historic novel ā€˜Pillars of the Earthā€™, the game will tell the tale of three playable main characters during 12th Century England and how they play a part in the small town of Kingsbridge, amongst poverty, war and murder.

The monk, Philip, has been chosen as the prior of Kingsbridgeā€™s abbey, while Jack, an architect, has been commissioned to build a cathedral in Kingsbridge. Further characters include Aliena who has to survive on her own following the incarceration and murder of their father, the Earl of Shiring. However, rivals to Phillip, bishop Waleran and William Hamleigh see Kingsbridge and its rise as a thorn in their flesh, and want to see the town burn to the ground.

21 chapters set across three books will tell the story found in the original 1000-page novel. Your decisions will influence and change events, as well as decide the fate of some of the characters in the game and with over 200 hand-painted backgrounds and an orchestral soundtrack, The Pillars of the Earth creates a dark, gloomy setting of 12th Century England.

Ā£31.99 spent at the Xbox Games Store will see you granted access to The Pillars of the Earth, but for now you’ll be limited to Book 1: From the Ashes. Book 2: Sowing the Wind and Book 3: The Eye of the Storm will both be available soon and we’ll be sure to let you know when that time comes.
