Join the free-to-play hunt as Dauntless launches on Xbox One, PS4 and the Epic Games Store

Free-to-play action fantasy experiences are fast becoming commonplace in the gaming world. But no matter how big a variety we get, it seems like there is always room for just one more. That one more is here today, with the launch of Dauntless on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Having sat in an open beta form on PC for nigh on a year, it’s time for Phoenix Labs to push the full edition of Dauntless out to the world, dropping us onto the Shattered Isles and into a new fantasy world before being tasked with taking down multiple Behemoths in our role of the Slayers.

With inspiration from Monster Hunter, Dark Souls and even World of Warcraft, Dauntless will see us going alone or teaming up with three other mates in a hunt to the death, attempting to take down Behemoths all whilst gathering up some precious loot, before crafting and upgrading weapons and equipment in order to see the circle complete. As you would expect, the more you grind, the better your gear becomes and the bigger the Behemoths you can take down will be. Utilising a combo system just ensures that there is one more aspect of gameplay to focus on.

Coming as the debut title from Phoenix Labs – although many of their team have worked previously at Capcom, Bioware and more – there is much interest in Dauntless. Not just because of that free-to-play gameplay element either, as just one look at the rather delightful visuals will quite possibly be enough to drag you in. Factor in the fact that you can go out to forge your legend, explore the inner secrets of the Shattered Isles, or find yourself teaming up with other Slayers from around the globe, and it’s easy to see the appeal.

To get involved you just need to head to your favoured digital store and hit up the usual download. Whether that be the Xbox Store, the PlayStation Store or the Epic Games Store matters little. Just get yourself involved!

As you may expect with any free-to-play experience, there are a number of paid options also available, with Platinum additions and cosmetics galore. In fact, all of the following are in place and ready to enhance the base game…

  • 10000 (+4000 Bonus) Platinum – £83.49
  • 5000 (+1700 Bonus) Platinum – £41.74
  • 2500 (+650 Bonus) Platinum – £20.99
  • 1000 (+150 Bonus) Platinum – £8.39
  • Timely Arrival Pack – £4.19
  • Arcslayer Pack – £33.49

Game Description:

As a Slayer, you are all that stands between your world and the Behemoths that seek to devour it. Take on boss-sized monsters, forge powerful weapons, and craft armour from the very creatures you slay — all in a massive, free-to-play online world.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
