Maid of Sker to bring stealth survival horror to Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC

-

It’s based on a haunting true story, and promises to drop on to Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC in Q3 of 2019. The question is, do you have what it takes to brave the nightmares of the Quiet Men in Maid of Sker?

Announced today by Wales Interactive and Perp Games, Maid of Sker is a new stealth focused survival horror title that brings a story of forbidden love within a family empire that is driven by torture, slavery, piracy and a supernatural mystery.

Based on the true story of Elizabeth Williams, you play as Thomas Evans, a musician who is thrust into a terrifying battle to save the woman he loves. Set in 1898 in and around Sker House, a real dwelling which still stands to this day and is said to be one the most haunted in Britain, Maid of Sker promises to come with realistic 4k visuals, and gameplay focused on stealth, exploration and no-weapon survival tactics, as you get the chance to experience a multiple thread narrative where your decisions matter. That means you’ll be found unlocking different story paths and multiple endings, hiding, running, creeping, trapping and distracting enemies in order to survive.

Much of the gameplay will be based around a 3D sound based AI system, and it is this which will see you coming face to face with enemies with super hearing. The picking up of objects can see them used as traps, but as things progress in Maid of Sker, you’ll find that enemies become more difficult to avoid, to the point where standing still and holding your breath is the only option!

Time it correctly and you’re safe. Run out of breath though and you’ll be in a world of pain.

“With our knowledge and experience of cinematic interactive storytelling from the likes of BAFTA Cymru award-winning Late Shift, we are implementing a cause and effect feature in Maid of Sker — meaning your choice of gameplay will effect different outcomes later in the game.” Richard Pring, Co-founder and Technical Director at Wales Interactive.

“We are extremely proud to continue our relationship with Wales Interactive. Maid of Sker is influenced by real events and promise to be one of 2019’s scariest games. We are delighted to be offering horror fans the opportunity to own a Physical Boxed copy of the game.” Rob Edwards, Managing Director at Perp Games.

“We are taking inspiration from R.D. Blackmore’s 19th century novel, The Maid of Sker, and the original Welsh ballad, Y Ferch o’r Sger, but telling the story in a truly sinister way, with multiple endings that will be discovered depending on the player’s actions. Expect to play a truly terrifying survival horror that reignites one of the most haunting tales in Wales.” David Banner, Co-founder and Managing Director at Wales Interactive.

Maid of Sker will not just be dropping in digital format though and there will also be a boxed edition dropping at the same time… whenever that may be. For now though, check out the trailer below and set your alarms for some point in Q3 2019.
