Whack on those manipulation gloves and prepare to be tested mentally in the latest game to be stripped of its price tag for the Games With Gold scheme, Q.U.B.E. 2 on Xbox One. It’s arguably one of the best puzzlers of this year and it’s free, so you should at least find out what all the fuss is about.
Anyone who takes the plunge will be taking on the role of archaeologist Amelia Cross in Q.U.B.E. 2, who awakens with no memory as to how she’s ended up in what appears to be an alien world. This first-person puzzler arms Amelia with a pair of special gloves that enable her to manipulate the environment within a monolithic structure, which is full of alien technology, in order to locate a stranded scientist, Emma Sutcliffe. The hope is that they’ll find a way home, together; it may prove a tricky task though given that their only means of communicating is by radio.
There are over 80 puzzles to overcome across 11 chapters of a story which explores themes of isolation, trust, and ultimately brings about thought-provoking questions of Amelia’s purpose in life. Should you wish to get involved with Q.U.B.E. 2 then Xbox Live Gold subscribers can download it from the Microsoft Store, without the usual cost of £19.99 until the end of this month, thanks to December’s Games With Gold scheme.
