Remember the fantastic, yet challenging, limb controlling antics of Manual Samuel back in 2016? Well, the developers behind that have just announced their next foray into the gaming world, Helheim Hassle, and it’s another body-focused puzzle platformer. This time we’re off to Valhalla!
Developed by Perfectly Paranormal, Helheim Hassle is essentially a narrative adventure game, which is set in the same universe as the aforementioned Manual Samuel. In this macabre adventure you’ll play as Bjørn, a pacifist viking who hates the idea of dying and going to Valhalla… who, in a twist of fate, then ends up dying and getting taken to Valhalla. When Bjørn is resurrected in order to assist with the completion of a task for the mysterious Pesto, he sees a way to negotiate his way out.
Using Bjørn’s undying corpse, possessing the ability to detach and combine limbs at will, the idea is to solve challenging puzzles and navigate tricky levels, with the ultimate goal being to retrieve a certain magical item. If successful, Pesto will try to grant Bjørn a permanent residence in Helheim and solve his current predicament.
“Helheim Hassle is a wacky, fun adventure – moving on from the body-puzzle mechanics of Manual Samuel. With engaging levels and lively characters, I have no doubt players will have a blast playing through this game,” said Ozan, Project Leader from Perfectly Paranormal. “It’s been a pleasure to bring to life such an exuberant shared universe.”
When Helheim Hassle launches, it’ll present up to 70 quests to fulfil across 14 levels, requiring the use of all manner of different body part combos to complete the game’s unique puzzle platforming challenges. On the adventure, you’ll come into contact with a whopping 80 different characters from all walks of life (and death), ranging from frustrated god souls, bear ghosts, dragons, elves, dwarves and even blue-collar goblins; all of whom are voiced by 24 professional voice actors, delivering 3,700 lines of spoken dialogue!
You can expect Helheim Hassle to release in the early part of this year for Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam – with its arrival on PlayStation 4 to follow soon after.
