New physical Collector’s Edition for Generation Zero announced, as old one pulled!

generation zero new collectors edition

If you are one of the many looking forward to the release of Generation Zero on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, then the previously announced Collector’s Edition may well have proved tempting. But there’s bad news, and from today THQ Nordic are announcing a new bundle of gear that will make up the new Generation Zero Collector’s Edition.

Before you know it, THQ Nordic will be found delisting its previously announced physical Collector’s Edition for Generation Zero, as supply difficulties with the Dala horse lead to the Edition being pulled out of the current offering.

Whilst that is no doubt an issue for many, with every bit of bad news, there is a good twist to look at, and in this sense we will be seeing the new Collector’s Edition coming without the horse and at a lower price point.

Yes, it’s sad to hear that the Dalecarlian horse (aka the Dala horse) will not be part of the Generation Zero Collector’s Edition, but due to the late arrival of the Dala horses and making an in-time assembling of the Edition impossible, THQ Nordic have taken swift action to pull the horse from the Collector’s Editions and from all retail customers.

“We are currently working on a solution to offer the Generation Zero Dala horse as a completely separate item via retail outlets later this spring. Stay tuned for further info!”, comments Jan Binsmaier, Publishing Director at THQ Nordic GmbH.

The new Collector’s Edition will therefore come without the Dala horse, and at a new SRP of £64.99 / €69.99 / $69.99 (the old SRP being that of £74.99 / €79.99 / $79.99). It will now contain the following content:

  • The game
  • A T-shirt
  • A premium Steelbook™ game case
  • Premium Box
  • A cloth map of the game world
  • 4 Concept Art postcards
  • Assets for download: here

But what is Generation Zero all about? Well, imagine an explosive game of cat and mouse set in a vast open world, and you’ll be somewhere close.

It is in this reimagining of 1980s Sweden, where hostile machines have invaded the serene countryside, and you need to fight back while unravelling the mystery of what is really going on. By utilizing battle tested guerrilla tactics, you’ll be able to lure, cripple, or destroy enemies in intense, creative sandbox skirmishes.

Going it alone, or teaming up with up to three of your friends in seamless co-op multiplayer is doable, and by collaborating and combining your unique skills to take down enemies, will be able to support downed friends by reviving them, sharing the loot after an enemy is defeated.

With all the enemies persistently simulated in the world, roaming the landscape with intent and purpose, the task will be a tough one. When you do manage to destroy a specific enemy component, be it armour, weapons or sensory equipment, the damage is permanent, and that will see the enemies bearing those scars until you face them again.

The award-winning Apex engine, a full day/night cycle with unpredictable weather, complex AI behaviour, simulated ballistics, highly realistic acoustics and a dynamic 1980’s soundtrack, will ensure that the full Generation Zero experience will be one well worth taking in – horse or not!
