Overcooked! 2 celebrates the Year of the Rat with new free Spring Festival

overcooked 2 year of the rat

One of the very best cooperative titles available on console is that of the Overcooked! series. With the initial game wowing the crowds back in 2016, and then Team17 pushing out Overcooked! 2 in 2018, if you’re looking for some manically fun cooking opportunities, then you can’t do any better. And today the overall experience has been enhanced once more with the arrival of the Spring Festival, as Kevin and the Onion King celebrate the Year of the Rat.

Coming from Team17 and Ghost Town Games is Overcooked! 2’s latest free update, one that celebrates the Chinese New Year with two new playable characters and no less than five brand new themed stages.

As you may expect to hear from a change that focuses on the Year of the Rat, the two new chefs now available in Overcooked! 2 come in the form of The Rat chef, and the Turtle chef. And along with the option to utilise the skills of these two new guys, we see new stages that will allow players to chop, cook, and simmer their way to success. Expect to be seeing new recipes for Dim sum, hot pot and fruit platters as the Overcooked! 2 menu reaches boiling point.

Key Features Include:

  • New Chefs. Normally rodents shouldn’t be allowed in the kitchen, but as it’s the Year of the Rat we’ll let it slide. Rat chef is ready to rustle up some fresh festival food alongside Turtle Chef, who is anything but a slow cooker!
  • New Levels. There may be a runaway dragon leaving havoc in its wake, but that doesn’t mean the cooking can stop. Players will work their way through five new levels all created around the Spring Festival theme.

The latest trailer detailing all of this can be found below. And don’t forget, if you’re loving what is available in the base game of Overcooked! 2, then the Season Pass should tempt you in even more. It is this which will satisfy the hungriest of customers, featuring ‘Carnival of Chaos’, ‘Campfire Cook Off’, and ‘Night of the Hangry Horde’, each serving up more meals, mechanics and mayhem.

Get over to the usual digital stores right now and pick up Overcooked! 2 or the Season Pass. You’ll find the Xbox Store amongst the best options here, although the game is also available on PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
