Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was easily one of 2017’s best games, not to mention it being by far the bloodiest shooter of the year. When we saw there would be even more content coming our way via The Freedom Chronicles Pass, there were plenty of reasons to be excited. Now it’s here though, can The Adventures of Gunslinger Joe keep up the same level of quality and enjoyment brought by the base game?
The rather exciting Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus proved to be another fine addition to the exquisite Wolfenstein series when it arrived at the end of October last year, but if you’ve already bested everything on offer within the campaign and find yourself looking for something a little more from the action packed shooter, then fear not - the latest DLC is here to give you a new reason to jump back in to the adventure once more.
If you’ve yet to jump into the delights of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, then a read of our review will cover all the reasons why you should be wanting to get involved with of the years finest adventures. If you’re looking for more reasons to head back after finishing up with the main offering though, then today’s new DLC arrival is just the thing you need to experience more of the fantastic, fast-paced and frantic shooting that we’ve grown to love so much in the Wolfenstein series.
Back in 2016, Bethesda’s E3 conference was one that had been long building excitement amongst gamers. Not only was it just the second ever E3 that saw Bethesda hold their own conference, but after some huge announcements just a year earlier, many were hoping to see something equally as big this time around. It’s fair to say that they pretty much delivered with the announcement of DOOM. Those with a keen eye though would have spotted something special on the pre-briefing DOS prompt that appeared on screen for a few moments - New_Colossus.
Now though things are very different than just simple cryptic messages, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is here to continue the fight against the Nazi’s. Does it continue with the same high standards set by its predecessor? I jumped into the shoes of the returning B.J. Blazkowicz to find out.
America 1961. The Nazis are still in power, and their maintained grip as the world’s leading power has reached new heights. You are BJ Blazkowicz, a member of the Resistance and general bugbear to the Nazi scourge – not to mention humanity’s last hope for liberty. It’s up to you to head stateside and kill every last Nazi in sight. It’s time for the second American Revolution.
I’d much rather sit down, have a nice relaxing time and enjoy what I’m playing through, normally without the stress that lining up that killer shot brings. But The New Order was a bit of a surprise as it was not only a bloody good playthrough, but most definitely on the contenders list for my 2014 GOTY.
So when I heard that Bethesda and MachineGames were coming back with a standalone expansion/content add on, my ears pricked up and I took a great deal of notice.
Boy am I glad I did.
Standing alone from the full retail Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Old Blood throws us back into the shoes of William B.J. Blazkowicz, tools us up with many weapons and lets havoc ensue.
