When your country is in peril, there’s only one man who can fight back and defend the nation against an attempted revolt – the President, of course. At least that’s the case where Metal Wolf Chaos XD is concerned and it’s out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC

Metal Wolf Chaos XD might be FromSoftware’s (Dark Souls III, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice etc.) latest title, but some of you may recognise it as simply Metal Wolf Chaos, which first saw light of day in 2004. Back then it was an Xbox exclusive available only in Japan though. Fortunately for those of us who never got to experience it, FromSoftware and General Arcade partnered with Devolver Digital to re-release it in an upgraded form. But what’s it all about and how will has this classic been updated?

President Michael Wilson has to defend the nation against a full-scale rebellion that’s lead by none other than his Vice-President, Richard Hawk. It is his – and now yours – sworn duty to take the country back by any means necessary and take down a mechanised army. You’ll head into battle in your very own advanced mech which is armed to the teeth, fighting across a variety of iconic American landscapes including the likes of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Grand Canyon, and the front steps of the White House.

Where Metal Wolf Chaos XD differs from the original is in the texture department, with upscaling in place to ensure the game doesn’t look too rough on modern displays and a redrawn UI that fits better. Last, but not least, are the remastered voiceovers; they provide better audio fidelity without changing any of voices or the content.

And it can be yours for the grand total of £20.99 from the Xbox Store, as well as the respective digital stores of the other aforementioned platforms. Feel free to hang fire for our upcoming review if you’re unsure of making a purchase, but should you end up buying it, let us know what you think of it!

Edit: You can now find our review of Metal Wolf Chaos XD on Xbox One live.

Game Description:

The country is in peril as President Michael Wilson defends the nation against a full-scale rebellion led by Vice-President Richard Hawk and the mechanized legions he commands. As the 47th President of the United States, it is your sworn duty to take your country back by any means necessary and end this unjust coup d’etat! Battle in your advanced mech – armed to the teeth – across iconic American landscapes including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Grand Canyon, and the front steps of the White House. FromSoftware originally released Metal Wolf Chaos in December 2004, appearing exclusively in Japan. The game went on to become somewhat of a legend as it was hard to acquire and even harder to play outside of Japan with most fans experience of the game through Let’s Play videos and the occasional screenshot. Devolver Digital and FromSoftware have partnered together with developer General Arcade to modernize Metal Wolf Chaos with updates to the game including upgraded visual fidelity, refined controls and gameplay, a new save system, and 4K + 16:9 support for modern displays.
