Nobody had any doubts that the next installment of Pro Evolution Soccer was coming, and PES is once again here to wow football fans – hopefully getting one over on FIFA in the process!
PES 2019, out today on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, promises the most realistic of visuals, as well as the most exciting of gameplay offerings for the football fan to get really stuck into. But of course PES 2019 isn’t here to brag about how good Wilfried Zaha looks in the game engine, it also wants to bring a good number of gameplay improvements for us to get excited about. This time round, Konami have focussed on improving player uniqueness on the pitch, with 11 new skill traits such as the ‘Dipping Shot’ to attribute to players as they see fit. This should in theory make Paulo Dybala feel more like Paulo Dybala, and not just any old guy playing for League 2’s Carlisle United. Furthermore, Visible Fatigue will have a noticeable effect on your players as the game goes on, with players becoming more tired.
Furthermore, additions to the club roster have been made, and this time round there is some love for the lesser known leagues. Now players can pick from many more leagues when playing a match, such as the Danish Superliga and the Chilean Campeonato Nacional Scotiabank – my personal favourite league from world football.
Mode-wise and Master League players will have the opportunity to take part in the International Champions Cup to give players a run out before the season starts proper, and negotiations for transfers have been improved in order to make you feel like more of a manager. PES’ answer to Fifa Ultimate Team, myClub, will see the introduction of Featured Players which are special improved versions of those who have performed well on the real pitch. Newer ways to acquire items and players have been added too, most notably through a trade system.
