Infected Shelter sure is a mix of genres, by being an action RPG shooter / dungeon brawler with rogue-lite elements thrown for good measure too. It’s been inspired by the likes of Castle Crashers and Rogue Legacy, albeit with a lot more violence. So, would you like to know more?
You play as a member of a surviving group in a post-apocalyptic world, either by yourself or with up to three friends in local co-op. On one fateful morning you wake up to find the shelter has been raided and your people have been kidnapped for reasons yet to be known. Emerging from the shelter, you head out into the harsh infected land and start looking for the kidnappers, hoping to uncover the truth behind the events. Your path will ultimately lead you through areas controlled by different enemy factions with brutal leaders and also shelters occupied by infected creatures. It’s a treacherous world.
Each run-through is different because of the fact it consists of randomly generated content. By defeating enemies, players can loot more than 150 different blueprints that reward permanent improvements, which is crucial to Infected Shelter’s replayability factor. Instead of simply collecting loot to make yourself more powerful during a single run, you unlock new weapons, clothes, skills, relics and obtain RPG-like character improvements for the following attempts.
It’s fast-paced, full of weapons and there are some utterly brutal executions to pull off in Infected Shelter, which you can discover when it launches in Q4 of this year for PC. Those of us on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch must wait until 2019.
For now, check out the bloody (literally) announcement trailer…
