Prepare to make history as F1 2017 gets details and release date

-

The real-world F1 season is currently the most exciting for many a year, with Vettel and Hamilton, Ferrari and Mercedes battling it out for world domination. Pretty good timing for Codemasters to reveal details of their videogame version of F1 2017 then? We’ve got a full release date too.

Come August 25th 2017, whether you’re a racer on Xbox One, PS4 or PC, you’ll be able to get involved with the latest F1 racer from Codemasters. It promises to include a deep career mode, numerous multiplayer enhancements, a brand new Championships mode and the return of classic F1 cars to the series.

The official videogame of the 2017 F1 Formula One World Championship, F1 2017, will no doubt come with all the current drivers, teams, rules and regs, delivering a racer that will no doubt appeal to fans of, not just F1, but motorsport itself. If you’re one of the biggest fans then you should keep an eye out for the Day One copies of F1 2017 which will have exclusive access to the iconic 1988 McLaren MP4/4, as part of the ‘F1 2017 Special Edition.’ Alternatively, the McLaren MP4/4 car will be available to be purchased at a later date. Eleven other classic cars are available in all editions of the game.

To compliment the announcement, Codemasters has released a trailer, showcasing three of the historic F1 cars that will feature in the game – the 1988 McLaren MP4/4 as driven by Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna, the 1992 Williams FW14B that was raced by Nigel Mansell and Riccardo Patrese and the 2002 Ferrari F2002 of Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher. Further classic cars will be revealed in the coming weeks but you can check out the trailer below.

“After an extremely successful year with the highly acclaimed F1 2016, we are delighted to be announcing F1 2017 and re-introducing classic F1 cars back to the series” said Paul Jeal, Game Director at Codemasters. “Classics were incredibly well received when we included them in F1 2013, and in F1 2017 they are back and better than ever. With so many great cars to choose from, it was hard to decide on the final twelve, but we are delighted with our selection of some of the most successful and iconic fan favourites from the past 30 years.”

“For the first time ever F1 2017 fully integrates the classic experience into the main career mode,” said Lee Mather, Creative Director at Codemasters. “As part of your career you will be invited to race in modern day, invitational events in the different classic F1 cars throughout the season. We’re also adding to the variety in F1 2017 with the inclusion of four alternative circuit layouts, as well as numerous new gameplay types. The classic cars will also be available to play in a range of other game modes, including online multiplayer modes and time trial.”

With a bunch of racers already available, Project Cars 2 and a new Forza title on the horizon, is there still a place for a racer which specialises in F1? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Cautiously interested in this. I still think F1 2013 was the best F1 game there has ever been and that’s solely because of the historic cars, drivers and tracks included. BUT… I’ve got alarm bells ringing for this release as I can see no mention of classic tracks… I want to be racing ‘Red 5’ around Brands Hatch, Estoril, Imola etc, not some re-mixed versions of Yas Marina / Bahrain etc…

I really hope they announce that classic tracks are coming but I have a horrible feeling this is more of a lazy cash-in PR stunt than anything else. If that’s the case I would rather F1 2013 Classic Edition be made backwards compatible and stick with hat…
