attack on titan 2 final battle

Attack on Titan 2 brought us more tactical slicing and dicing of those humongous Titans last March, but now it’s just been re-released alongside some brand new content to tie-in with Season 3 of the anime. So let’s whack on our ODM gear and go hunting for fresh meat in Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle includes everything found in the base game with the addition of more story-based content, new gear, and a new mode. The Season 3 timeline will play out via the Character Episode mode, allowing you to experience the story through the eyes of important characters. As a result of the expanded narrative, there are more playable character such as Scout Regiment member, Nifa; 104th Training Corps cadet, Floch; First Interior Squad Captain, Kenny Ackerman; First Interior Squad member, Traute; and an all-round mysterious chap, Zeke.

A decent influx of new gear enables Scouts to be better equipped for their battles against the gigantic foe. Alongside the standard Slashing Gear, there’s the even more deadly Shooting Gear which replaces blades with guns for the purpose of long-range attacks. Different ammo types offer different types of damage, and the ammo options include the Regular Shot, Scatter Shot, Explosive Shot, Attrition Shot, Numbing Shot and Incendiary Shot. It’s also worth considering the mighty Thunder Spear though; a weapon capable of completely wiping out a titan in a single blow. Now that’s impressive, right?

And then there’s the action-packed Territory Recovery Mode, in which you’ll create your own corps and venture out to reclaim land outside the walls. It features two rounds, with the first being a sort of ‘Base’ phase where players can freely roam around to socialise with allies, use materials to prepare and upgrade equipment, ensuring they’re ready for the conflict ahead. After that phase is over, the ‘Outer Campaign’ phase commences and this sees Scouts venturing outside of the walls in a more thrilling section to claim land back for humanity.

Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle is now available for £54.99 on Xbox One from the Xbox Store and by purchasing it you’ll also acquire the “Queen of Historia” costume for Christa, a “Coat (Young Male)” for Kenny, the “Plain Clothes (Underground City)” for Levi, and a “One-piece Dress” costume for Mikasa – the costumes are actually free to download separately at the moment, so grab those swiftly. If you already own Attack on Titan 2 (here’s our review of that), then the A.O.T. 2: Final Battle Upgrade Pack costing £39.99 is the recommended route to take. For those playing on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, please check your respective digital stores.
