Square Enix have today announced a couple of release dates for the upcoming classic Final Fantasy titles. You may recall the announcement confirming that VII, IX, X/X-2 and XII were all coming to Xbox One in 2019. Now we find out the release dates for Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.

The good news is that we don’t have to wait long either as both titles are releasing in April 2019.

The not so good news is that there is only a two-week gap between releases.

First to arrive will be Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, a duology of games that first released in 2001 and 2003 respectively. The version Xbox fans are getting their hands on will be the HD Remaster, which released in the West in 2014 on the PlayStation 3, before dropping a year later on PlayStation 4. It features updated visuals, a remastered soundtrack – and the ability to swap between old and new – plus additional story elements not available in the West before.

Final Fantasy X and X-2 tell the story of Tidus and Yuna; two people from completely different walks of life that are thrown together in a world living in constant fear of Sin. Sin attacks towns and villages seemingly at random and it is up to Yuna as a summoner and Tidus as her guardian to defeat Sin and bring about the Calm.

Then following quickly after is Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, another remastering that released on PlayStation 4 back in July 2017. This contained much the same in terms of new features as the X/X-2 Remaster, but The Zodiac Age also brought with it the International Zodiac Job System that had previously only been available in Japan. This allowed players to assign job roles to characters to tailor their battle preferences much more than was previous before.

Final Fantasy XII is all about Vaan who has dreams of becoming a sky pirate but is currently wandering the streets as an urchin. He quickly meets a cast of characters to help him succeed in his journey but must firstly stop a war whilst clearing the tarnished name of a knight and help a princess take back her rightful place. All in a day’s work, eh?

It is unknown yet whether these will be receiving physical releases, but we do know that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster on Xbox One will be on the Xbox Store on 16th April 2019, with Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age following swiftly on 30th April.

Which one will you be picking up first? Or are you going to challenge yourself and get X and X-2 completed in the two weeks before XII releases? Let us know in the comments below!
