Slay the Spire shuffles its way on to Xbox One and Game Pass

After spending more than a year in early access on PC, Slay the Spire fully released to rave reviews in January of 2019. It went on to sell more than a million copies before launching on PS4 in May and the Nintendo Switch in June. But Slay the Spire is finally bringing its incredible mix of card-based action and roguelike progression to Xbox One – today!

If you want to see what the buzz is about before dishing out £19.99 on the title then worry not; Slay the Spire is on Xbox Game Pass for PC and console today, the same day as its release. It should keep you subscribed for months too, as Slay the Spire offers a ton of replayability.

The game lets you choose between three different classes, each with different passive abilities and decks. Climbing up the Spire you’ll need to defeat gruesome creatures, slowly build your deck for the best strategy and navigate traps like a choose-your-own adventure title.

In true roguelike fashion, every time you die, progress through the Spire will be reset, but worry not, as there is a permanent progression system so you’ll always be improving your character… even if your deck is reset. Each journey through the Spire is procedurally generated so you’ll never be playing the same thing twice but you’ll at least be wiser each time you try.

If that’s not enough, Slay the Spire also offers daily challenges for you to beat. Every single day a different run will be available for you to try and these include different modifiers to spice things up. It can be anything from a health penalty or an incredibly rare artefact that’ll give your deck that extra edge.

After playing a single game in daily challenge mode, you’ll be able to create your own custom runs with the option to add your own modifiers and create your own, unique playthroughs. The options are nearly endless and Slay the Spire seems like a game that’ll keep anyone busy for dozens of hours.

Features include:

  • – Dynamic Deck Building: Choose your cards wisely! Discover hundreds of cards to add to your deck with each attempt at climbing the Spire. Select cards that work together to efficiently dispatch foes and reach the top
  • – An Ever-changing Spire: Whenever you embark on a journey up the Spire, the layout differs each time. Choose a risky or safe path, face different enemies, choose different cards, discover different relics, and even fight different bosses!
  • – Powerful Relics to Discover: Powerful items known as relics can be found throughout the Spire. The effects of these relics can greatly enhance your deck through powerful interactions. But beware, obtaining a relic may cost you more than just gold…

Interested in buying the game? Well, it’s available right now on the Xbox store or you can grab it on the Nintendo eShop, Playstation storefront or multiple PC marketplaces. If you’re still unsure about whether to try this one out, you can wait for our full, in-depth review of Slay the Spire on Xbox One in the next few days.

My earliest gaming memories come from playing Pokemon Crystal on the Game Boy, Kingdom Hearts on the PS2 and most importantly Halo 3 on the Xbox 360. I've pretty much played video games everyday since and still get excited about what's to come.
