After reaching their initial target of $30,000, the team at Ink Stains Games are delighted to announce that Stoneshard will be arriving on Xbox One, PS4, Switch and PC in 2019.
Stoneshard is an open-world roguelike RPG in a medieval fantasy setting, inspired by games such as Diablo, ADOM, Nethack, and more recent titles like The Banner Saga where your actions have consequences. It also features a permadeath mechanic where heroes who die are gone forever, replaced instead by a new character to inherit their legacy. And with the promise from the developers that you will die a lot, that’s a lot of inheritance to gather through the generations!
Players control a mercenary whose actions decide the fate of the kingdom of Aldor, a world devastated by war and famine. You have a caravan of followers undertake their journey with them, that can be added to as you explore the world. It is a procedurally generated world so you will never know what is round the corner, so it is up to you to persuade NPCs around the world to join your quest. These additional characters offer bonuses and side stories, making sure no two playthroughs are the same.
Your character can suffer not only physical damage, but a huge array of mental illnesses too. Wounds will require bandages and splints are there for anything that’s broken – there are also a variety of medicines and hallucinogens to combat mental effects such as fear and insanity. Failing that, drink some alcohol or have a smoke on a bong and hope that eases the pain! With so many potential ailments, you best have a full first aid kit before setting off!
If all this sounds up your street, the Kickstarter is still active until 16th June and can be found here where the stretch goals are uncovered so you can see the potential bonuses you receive by backing this early.
If you fancy a more hands-on approach, there is even a playable alpha prologue to download for PC right now and available here.
Stoneshard will appeal to fans of hardcore action RPG fans, dungeon crawlers and roguelike fans, and is set to appear on the Xbox and other consoles sometime in 2019. Will this be something you keep an eye on? Let us know in the comments below!
