Throw together a team of industry veterans from the likes of Press Play, Rare, Square Enix and CCP and you should really get something rather exciting. That seems to be the case with Trailmakers and as the vehicle building adventure hits Steam, there is the big old promise of an Xbox One version coming soon.
Available today in Steam Early Access, Trailmakers will see you journeying to a hazardous alien world where every mountain, every river, and every ramp is a piece of the playground. It’ll be up to you to create fully customizable rides from the barest of essentials and scrounge around the badlands for more parts to mod your vehicle into a rocket-powered racer, sleek fighter jet, or whatever else players can dream up to keep on truckin’. Your imagination is the only limit in Trailmakers.
Creating a vehicle is a cinch too as parts can be snapped together to create everything from off road wheels to wings. The possibilities are near on endless.
The single-player Expedition Mode will challenge you too, giving you limited resources to begin with, before letting you go out and explore. Some hills require hefty amounts of horsepower, while other gaps and valleys can only be leapt over with rockets strapped onto the vehicle, or even flown over with helicopter blades if they can be uncovered. Expect to find this mode updated to allow for four players to come together at a later date.
Should you not want the challenge, preferring to just create, then a full Sandbox Mode allows you to tinker until something magical happens. This is where Trailmakers’ abundance of vehicle parts can truly shine: with no limits on what’s available to players, you can build anything from walking tanks to cars able to transform into a robot or jet with one button press. The land, the sea, and the sky are all testing grounds for turning impossible ideas into exciting experiments.
Expect to find the Dethrone Mode also in place. This is a high-impact fusion of capture-the-flag and king-of-the-hill, which, with the help of Flashbulb’s “Physics-Over-Network” technology, synchronizes crashes for up to four players so each participant sees the same glorious explosions. Further multiplayer modes, as well as new skins and vehicle parts, are already in development and will be introduced later.
“Trailmakers emphasizes fun first over everything else,” said Mikkel Thorsted, creative director, Flashbulb Games. “We want everyone to feel as free as their untamed imaginations allow, and we can’t wait to see the vehicles our players will dream up throughout Early Access.”
If you wish to check out Trailmakers now, then you’ll have to head to Steam and take in its Early Access form. The second any more news arrives regarding the release on Xbox and the Xbox Game Preview program, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Edit: So, one year on and it has emeged that Trailmakers will be arriving in Xbox One Game Preview come March 22nd 2019. Be sure to check it out. We will be 🙂
