Up Next – A look at the Xbox One and Xbox 360 games out in April 2016

After a decent March, we’re fast beginning to see some proper Xbox One titles drop onto store shelves and April shows no sign of letting up. But what games will be dropping onto our consoles over the next few weeks? Well, there are some huge names vying for your attention on Xbox One, with even the lesser spotted Xbox 360 game release making an appearance.

Quantum Break – Xbox One

After being announced/teased upon the XBOX ONE RELEASE (yes, I know, a whole two years ago), Remedy have finally finished this unique exclusive and it promises to be rather awesome.

You are in control of good guy Jack Joyce and baddie Paul Serene as you try to stop/harness/prevent time going completely crazy. Throughout the game you will come across ruptures in time which result in Jack gaining the ability to stop time at will and bend it to stop his foes, thus creating a very interesting twist in the third-person shooter genre.

But, aside from the confusing but amazing time powers given to you, Quantum Break takes pride in its plot, so much so that at different parts of the game you will control antagonist Paul Serene, founder of Monarch Solutions, who will have to decide how to shape the plot of the game. These decisions will then open out into a half hour episode of QB’s brand new TV series.

Why Should You Buy It? Any keen Xbox follower would have undoubtedly been tracking this game’s progress, so, now that you have the chance to control time… why wouldn’t you give it a go?

Dark Souls III – Xbox One

Due to its tough as nails gameplay, and frankly intimidating nature, I’ve shied away from the Dark Souls franchise – but after seeing footage, should I toughen up and give it a go?

Yes, Dark Souls is infamous for being the hardest of the hard, but with a larger world, bigger, better bosses and that traditional ‘withered beauty’ gothic vibe you get as you go on your adventure, this one could just tempt you in. Dark Souls III is designed for you to die and then learn from mistakes – it is a game for perfectionists and you can get perfection from many ways. Throwing fire and other forms of magic, going in full throttle with two handed weapons, or staying back and shooting arrows from afar, DS3 has really built upon allowing you to bring your own style to the bloody battlefield.

Why Should You Buy It? The Dark Souls series is for masters, and the newest addition to the series gives those masters many ways to defeat their foes.

Tales from the Borderlands – Xbox One

God knows how many video game and TV franchises has been given the Telltale treatment, with The Walking Dead, Back To The Future and the upcoming Batman point and click adventures all impressing gamers with their gripping plot and smooth gameplay.

Now you can sit back and enjoy the five episodes of Tales from the Borderlands, this time on disc format. Set just after the events of Borderlands 2, explore the Borderlands as you make vital decisions and develop relationships with the characters we all know and love – Claptrap and Co. are all there to help or hinder your progress and it won’t be long before you are opening new vaults on Pandora and discovering the mystery behind the murder of Handsome Jack.

Why Should You Buy It? We all know Telltale Games are masters of storytelling, and the well crafted story mixed with the fun, colourful, hilarious universe of Borderlands makes for a must play game.

Lichdom: Battlemage – Xbox One

lichdom battlemage

Recently delayed but soon able to be played, Lichdom: Battlemage is a first-person action adventure RPG with a twist. Yes, lots of other games of the same genre allow your character to wield all sorts of magic to banish your foes, but with Lichdom your character, ‘the Dragon’, is on a quest through a linear world, coming complete with many different elements to his or her disposal, including fire, water and lightning to name a few. The catch? You can only have three magical ‘Sigils’ active at any given time, with you able to change your selection at any Reliquary (checkpoint) you reach.

Why Should You Buy It? The system Lichdom: Battlemage has in play is one of a simple nature, but should be extremely effective as you decide how to deliver justice to your enemies.

MXGP2: The Official Motocross Videogame – Xbox One

mxgp2 pic 1

MXGP2 The Official Motocross Vidoegame promises to be the most realistic motocross title available on Xbox, with full licencing, many bikes and tracks ready to race on and across. The game boasts the full roster of motocross championships from MX2 and MXGP (if you are a fan of bike races you will know what these are), and the game adds a new feature not seen in the original MXGP game. MXoN gives you the opportunity to pick a nation and compete in races, playing as all the official members of that team out there in the real world.

Why Should You Buy It? For any motocross fan, this is the most complete, realistic and official video game for you and probably your only chance to really experience the adrenaline of the sport.

Rugby Challenge 3 – Xbox One and Xbox 360

Rugby Challenge 3 is a rugby union simulator which gives many options for those who enjoy their egg-chasing. Traditional 15 player team and 7 player team modes are just a few options to pick from.

You could also start the Be a Pro mode. Similar to FIFA’s mode of the same name, you begin the career of a created rugby player and control him through the leagues into rugby supremacy! All rugby union teams in England, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa are licenced and playable in the game, so it is completely up to you who you play as. Don’t forget to also create custom players and share these online through a feature known as FanHub.

Why Should You Buy It? If you are an avid rugby union fan and want to test your skills in the virtual world, then this could be your best chance.

DiRT Rally – Xbox One

dirt rally pic 2

DiRT Rally tests your driving skills across many forms of environment, with your player racing across snow, ice, tarmac and, of course, dirt, competing in many varieties of track racing as you attempt to beat your foes and become champion. But it’s not as easy as it sounds – one crash could shoot down your chance of first place and DiRT Rally will test your concentration and skill in the rain, snow and sun as you trade paint with the world’s elite across single player and online multiplayer races.

Why Should You Buy It? DiRT is now an established racing series, as their titles before this have all been popular, who better to test the gritty, muddy rally side of racing than the developers behind it all – Codemasters?

So April is a month full of games; from the hotly anticipated, to the earlier delayed and even one that may only appeal to fans of the genre (we’re looking at you Rugby Challenge 3). Which of the titles on sale this month will you pick up? Let us know in the comments below.

I'm an avid gamer who will play pretty much anything... but stick an open world or adventure game in front of me and I'm more than happy.
