The fourth, and final, episode of the ‘Dontnod Presents Vampyr’ web-series has arrived to offer further insight into the upcoming RPG Vampyr. The specific release date has also been revealed, so let’s sink our teeth in and find out more.
Episode Four: Stories from the Dark goes behind the scenes with Narrative Director Stéphane Beauverger and Game Director Philippe Moreau, showing off a decent amount of gameplay footage at the same time. It explains how the intricate gameplay of Vampyr keeps the player occupied to the extent that the narrative needs to be intertwined with the exploration, investigations, combat and difficult choices faced. Furthermore, the relationship between a player and their character is something DONTNOD have tried to make even more special.
It goes on to liken the immersion of a game to theatre, where the close relationship created between actor and spectator is way more powerful than is possible in a film or TV show. The ultimate goal for those developing Vampyr is to achieve total immersion, with the studio using motion capture to help the cast of the game appear more human. It all helps to produce a living, breathing version of 1918 London. Who lives and breathes though is entirely up to you!
‘Stories from the Dark’ is certainly worth a watch, especially as it reveals exactly when you’ll be able to get stuck into Vampyr. Just in case you miss it though, it’ll launch on June 5th of this year for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Can you keep your bloodlust at bay until then?
I like the look of this, so it’ll be added to the backlog at some point.
