2017 may not have been around long enough for many of us to remember to change the date at the top of emails and messages yet, but just because we may be lagging, the gaming world certainly isn’t. We’re now already just days away from the year’s first big release, with a bunch of great indies already out the door, and Xbox One Backwards Compatibility already welcoming ten new arrivals this month so far, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the usual beginning months of the year have passed us by already.

But they haven’t, it’s simply another week and with another week come more Xbox Live Deals With Gold bargains. Whilst the recent Deals With Gold sales have offered us a mixed bunch of both classics and clangers, this week sees some top deals that are sure to get any avid gamer hot under the collar, unless of course you have them already, at which point you can smile in appreciation of Xbox’s kindness this week.

But which are the best, the worst and the most tempting of Xbox Live Deals With Gold bargains that are in place between the 17th-23rd Jan 2017? Let us tell you!

Grab – The Walking Dead Season 1 & 2 Bundle – 67% off – £11.88

twdclem

Telltale may be well known for their success in near on every interactive episodic adventure they have created so far, but there is no denying that ultimately their greatest work is in the fantastic Walking Dead series.

With both Season 1 and 2 bundled into one great deal this week, anyone who hasn’t yet given these top-quality adventures a go needs to pick up this deal. Each season offers five episodes and with each one coming in at a couple of hours a piece, there’s plenty of content on offer for the price – along with some of the greatest storytelling ever seen on console.

Those who choose to cash-in on the adventures of Clementine and her fellow survivors will certainly not be disappointed, especially after the Season 1 finale hits home.

Grab – Back to the Future: The Game – 30th anniversary – 67% off – £6.60

Whilst Telltale’s other games may have not quite reached the popularity of The Walking Dead series, it doesn’t mean they don’t offer a great story, and that’s just what’s on offer in Back to the Future: The Game.

Released on Xbox One last year to coincide with the films 30th anniversary, the game continues the story after the events of the third film as players step back into the journey of Marty McFly and Doc Brown. The voice acting comes from some of the films original cast and more of Telltale’s interwoven magic has been cleverly scripted into each scene, making this one well worth grabbing.

Grab – Song of the Deep – 50% off – £6.00

song 3

Song of the Deep may not be the most well-known title to be released by the development heroes at Insomniac Games, but it doesn’t mean it’s not one to check out.

For just 6 quid you could find yourself embroiled in Merryn’s journey, as she builds her own makeshift submarine to search for her father who went missing whilst fishing. Despite the presence of enemies that are capable of harming Merryn, the game is heavily built around exploration rather than combat, making for a memorable experience.

Whether this friendly Metroidvania style 2-D platformer is for you or not matters little but there is certainly worse ways to spend your cash so we reckon you should grab it while you can.

TempterForza Horizon 2 & Forza Motorsport 5 Bundle – 50% off – £30.00

forza horizon offroad 2

Most racing fans with an Xbox One will have already dabbled in the near perfection that is Forza, and those who haven’t will have certainly heard of it.

But whether you’ve joined the franchise through the open world of the second Horizon festival or on the sun soaked tarmac of some of the worlds finest race tracks in Forza 5, we can all agree that these are fantastic titles. With this being a deal suited mainly to those who are new to the Xbox One, £30 quid may not seem to be the cheapest of the week, but for your money you will net yourself two fantastic racers with enough content packed into each to see you through to the end of this year. That we can guarantee.

If you don’t have these games already, pick them up now.

LeaveThree Fourths Home: Extended Edition/Paranautical Activity Bundle – 50% off – £6.00

para

Unfortunately, not every deal can be a great deal, and there will be some looking on in disappointment as I discourage you from buying a two game bundle for such little outlay.

It is for good reason I recommend you spend your money elsewhere as even though Three Fourths Home is certainly not a terrible game, it isn’t fantastic either. It basically comes down to a mild interactive story in which the player sits through the protagonists journey through a bad storm, whilst on the phone to her family – and that’s about as exciting as it gets. Sure it can net you some easy Gamerscore, but there are certainly other games that should be at the top of anyone’s must buy list first.

The other game in this bundle, Paranautical Activity, doesn’t help reinforce this double pack as a good deal either. With poor graphics leading to easy mistakes due to everything looking so similar, and enemies that are hardly varied, this is a game that tries hard, but fails to capture the magic of other similar games such as Ziggurat and Tower of Guns. With so many other good deals available this week, it’s probably best you don’t bother with this one.
