Which of this week’s Xbox Live Deals With Gold bargains should you pick up? – 26th Apr 2016

The end of the month is coming and payday is just a few short days away. Chances are you’ve spent your wages from last month and are struggling to purchase those AAA Xbox One games. The latest Deals With Gold sale however is now in place and brings a number of discounts to games from both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 library. Want us to tell you which are the best bargains of the week…and which are the god damn worst?

Well, this week round Xbox One owners will seriously struggle to pick up anything that can be treated as a bargain. In fact, in amongst the numerous XO discounts, there is only really one that could tempt you in. It’s good news for Xbox 360 owners though with a number of discounts to get hold of.

Grab – Assassin’s Creed IIAssassin’s Creed BrotherhoodAssassin’s Creed Revelations – £3.59 each

If you’re still gaming on Xbox 360, then you could do a whole ton worse than check out the numerous Assassin’s Creed titles that have been discounted. Ignoring the first one (because it’s not very good), the three titles that are priced at £3.59 – ACII, AC Brotherhood and AC Revelations – are the best of the bunch and should most definitely be played.

In fact, if you’ve got a tenner to spare, then we advise you to go and grab all three of them immediately. We’ll hazard a guess and say that once you’ve got involved in the Assassin’s Creed experience, you won’t be able to leave it alone!

Tempter – Shovel Knight – £8.03 – 33% off

We’d like to see Shovel Knight coming in at a slightly cheaper price, but the discounted price of £8.03 certainly makes it this week’s tempter.

We reviewed the game nearly a year ago when it first released on Xbox One and were pretty wowed by what it brought to our lives. A glorious action adventure, you’ll be tasked with sending Shovel Knight off on a wicked journey – one filled with a stunning 8-bit style and accompanied by an outstanding, enchanting soundtrack. The control scheme may be a bit off (at least by default) but if you want to be spirited back into a world from decades past, then this is one of your best opportunities.

Leave – Dead Or Alive 5 Lr Art + Beauty + Bods– £31.34 – 40% off

Okay, so you may just need to be a certain type of person to get a kick from spending over £30 on a load of art, beauty and body mods for Dead or Alive 5, but even if you are a fan of the game, then surely it’s hugely overpriced tosh that you could do without?

Or can someone tell me that I’m missing something? Nah, didn’t think so. Just give the DoA5 stuff a wide old berth.

Leave – Madden NFL 16 Super Deluxe: Season Edition – £47.99 – 40% off

It’s the Super Deluxe version. It’s Madden NFL 16. It’s a bloody good game.

But it’s horrendously overpriced for what it is and shouldn’t be granted a spot in this week’s Xbox Live Deals With Gold sale. If you love a bit of Madden, then you would have been first in the queue to pick it up upon launch and therefore have no need for the Season Edition.

If you’re not a fan, then well, you won’t be spending £50 on this version will you. Will you? Please tell me you won’t!

So, a week that initially looks to bring a whole host of bargains for both Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners yet again fizzles out into nothing. The XO discounts are too highly priced and other than Shovel Knight, should see gamers keep their hands in the pockets and hold their wallet safe. At least for another seven days. Just make sure you go and pick up an Assassin’s Creed title though – they are about the only things that are well priced.

If however you do decide to grab something, we’d love it if you could tell us what you pick up in the comments below. If you’re serious about saving even more cash, then you may wish to head on over to CDKeys and pick up some cheap Xbox Live credit first.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
