Will Xbox have a VR headset?

For many in the industry, there is an expectation that Microsoft could join the virtual reality revolution. However, nothing on ground presently suggests it could come to life anytime soon; if at all.

Feeders from Microsoft suggest they don’t have any immediate reason for producing their own virtual reality headset. Even if they go down that route, the Xbox VR headset won’t be used in the same way as Sony’s headset (only on the Xbox).

Virtual Reality headsets bring an immersive experience to gamers, even for those on their favourite sites that offer popular online gambling games.  Gamers who are willing to pay the price will be able to enjoy the ability to teleport to other worlds from wherever they are making sport and adventure games more engaging.  A good number of tech companies including HTC, Samsung, Sony, Google and Facebook have embraced the revolution but Microsoft has chosen to stay away.

The gaming division of Microsoft understands the fact that many Xbox One owners will welcome the possibility of adding VR to their gaming experience. However, they believe the number of players already in the market is enough. They expect to only go into the VR space if all the providers in the market today fail to offer an experience comprehensive enough for Xbox customers.

Other possible reasons

Experts believe that Microsoft’s reluctance to enter the VR space could be a result of paying attention to ensuring that HoloLens, its augmented reality project, meets all expectations. There is no plan for a consumer version of the Hololens for now though.

Additionally, Microsoft already has an agreement with Facebook’s Oculus VR to provide Xbox One game controllers with every Oculus Rift headset, which will allow the headset owners to enjoy their Xbox games in a virtual living room. In addition to the fact that they have agreed to bring the very popular Minecraft to Oculus as well, it is easy to see why Microsoft is in no hurry to launch their own VR line.

Some analysts are still sceptical though regarding Microsoft’s stance. Many believe that since the market is still in its nascent stage, Microsoft could use information that will be gathered over the next couple of years as uptake of VR grows, to storm the market in 2 or 3 years. They won’t be too late and with newer technology, they could leave a heavier mark on the market.

For now though, Microsoft seems content with the middleman role.
