5 Reasons why Fortnite is better than PUBG

-

If you have been active in the gaming world over the past few months, you would have undoubtedly heard of Fortnite and PUBG. These are Battle Royale style games where you are dropped into a world with 100 other people and your goal is to survive by finding weapons and supplies.

You may be familiar with one of these games or both, but in this article I am going to attempt to show you why I think Fortnite is better than PUBG. However, first, let’s talk more about what PUBG and Fortnite are.

What is PUBG and Fortnite?

PUBG, made by Bluehole, is simply a survival game that is in beta, so there is only one mode and one map right now (for Xbox anyways). You begin the game by parachuting out of a plane, into an open world where you must scavenge in order to survive.

Due to the large map, there are plenty of places to explore on your own. However, if you want better loot, then you might want to consider going into the bigger cities where you will likely have to fight others to get some of the top-notch items. As the game goes on, a ‘safe zone’ appears that you must go to, or you will become victim to poison gas. The safe zone will continue to shrink, and the remaining members must battle it out until there is only one person left standing. It is up to you to find the supplies that you need in order to survive and to decide how risky or safe to play the game.

Fortnite, made by Epic, is very similar to PUBG. It is also a survival game but is more light hearted and cartoony. It is in closed beta, and currently has two modes, but for this article we are just going to talk about the Battle Royale mode. There is only one map in Fortnite and it is much smaller compared to PUBG, coming with less equipment and quicker gameplay. The biggest differentiating factor that Fortnite has over PUBG is the ability to build – we will delve into this topic later on. Instead of poison gas, there is a massive storm which you do not want to get caught in. You must continue moving to the safe zone and fight until you are killed or are the last one remaining.

Which is better?

I would argue to you that Fortnite is better than PUBG for 5 reasons, with the ability to build being one of the main reasons. Things such as map size, limited inventory, gun ranking, and quick gameplay are also contributing reasons to why Fortnite is the superior game. Let’s take a closer look at each of these reasons.

Building

In Fortnite, you can collect three different kinds of materials to build four different types of structures. You can use wood, brick, or metal to make a wall, platform, ramp, or a covering. These things can also be further modified to add a door or window into the structure. Knowing how to quickly build a shelter can save your life.

There may be times when you are running through a field, minding your own business, when all of the sudden bullets start flying by you, and you have not the slightest idea where they are coming from! So, what do we do in that situation?

In PUBG you would be forced to either serpentine and hope for the best or turn around and likely face your death. In Fortnite, you can simply build a 4-walled shelter which provides a second to get yourself together. If they choose not to shoot down the fort, then it can be used as protection while you try to locate them. Further, towards the end of the game, elaborate forts can be created, in an attempt to be the last man standing. If you have ever played, then you have likely seen the crazy forts people build towards the end. This provides you with shelter, the ability to see with a bird’s eye view, and makes you look like a boss. Often the ones that win are the ones who have built a large fort and slowly pick others off one by one.

Map Size

Like PUBG, Fortnite only has one map. The map in Fortnite is relatively small compared to PUBG. This allows you to get to the safe zone much quicker. Often, you can be in a firefight with someone or scavenging a house and completely lose track of time. Seeing there is only 30 seconds until the zone starts moving, you realize that you better get a move on! Most of the time, in Fortnite, you could make it to the safe zone without the storm ever catching up to you.

In PUBG, this task is much harder to accomplish, because the map is so big!

There can be games of PUBG where you spend the whole time running, trying to get to the safe zone, and then by the end of the game, you have little to no gear to protect yourself because you spent the whole time chasing after the safe zone. The smaller zone size also makes it a lot easier to learn the map and be familiar with the places that you are running through.

Limited Inventory

In Fortnite, you have five slots in which you can hold your guns, potions, grenades, and medical supplies. In PUBG, you have limited inventory at first, and as you find a backpack you can expand that inventory greatly depending on the level of the backpack.

Only having 5 slots can sometimes be a pain, because you may have to pass up something that you like in order to keep something that you think is more valuable. Often you have to give up carrying a med kit or extra potion because you might prefer to have an extra weapon, like a sniper rifle or rocket launcher. However, having a very limited inventory can also make things a lot less confusing and easier to access.

In PUBG you must scroll through a giant list of things in the backpack menu to figure out what it is that you want. Whereas in Fortnite, you can very easily and clearly see what you have and by hitting one button, you can be to it in a second. You don’t have to worry about keeping up with attachments for your guns or finding the right scope for your weapon. You just need to search for the specific gun you like, and once you have it you are ready to go and can quickly change to a different one if needed.

Gun Ranking

Fortnite has a very clear gun ranking system that divides them into common, uncommon, rare, epic, and legendary. To make it easier, they are also color coded and glow, so you can tell from a distance if it is something that you may be interested in.

In PUBG, there is no ranking system. It is up to you to research and figure out which gun is more powerful. You have no way of knowing if there is going to be a specific kind of gun in a certain building or not, so you have to hope for the best. Having a simple gun system makes it so much easier to quickly decide what gun you want, and instantly have a good idea of how powerful it is going to be.

Gameplay Time

Battle Royale style games can sometimes take a while to complete, especially if you are decent at them and can survive into the final handful of players. Making it into the Top 5 of PUBG can take forever. Because the map is so big, and everyone is so spread out, it can literally take 45 minutes to play one game – at least if you make it to the last couple of people. To make it to the Top 5 in Fortnite, requires maybe 25 minutes tops.

Let’s say that you only have one hour to play, if you play PUBG, you can only get in 1-2 games, depending on how you are doing. If you play Fortnite, you can usually get in about 5-6 games before you need to get off. Personally, playing more is hugely more appealing than participating in just a couple of games. There is more action and excitement when you play Fortnite because it is so quick paced, and people are everywhere. This gets the adrenaline pumping and makes the hour more enjoyable.

Over the past couple months, Battle Royale games have taken over gaming. I personally enjoy playing both, however, the ability to build, map size, limited inventory, gun ranking, and the gameplay time makes me a lot more likely to load up Fortnite than PUBG. While they are both great games, I believe that Fortnite is the superior game!
