Making games is hard.
I mean, I’ve never made one, but I imagine that it’s really hard, at least.
So much to code, so much to program, so much can go wrong. But when the final product is a resounding success, this should be celebrated. However, sometimes games may not meet expectations or turn out the way somebody expected, much like any movie or TV show. Crafting a great piece of entertainment is tough. So it gives me no pleasure at all to say that I didn’t enjoy Crimson Keep.
Prepare to embark upon a fight for survival, with the first-person action RPG Crimson Keep, out now on Xbox One, tasking you to explore, scavenge and face off against countless beasts and horrors that lurk within. Can you escape this terrible place, or are you destined to fail time and time again in this rogue-like experience?
While Crime Secrets: Crimson Lily gets points for its absence of sticking points, and its determination to improve the deduction sequences, it keeps missing out thanks to its creaky storytelling and pervasive blandness that felt like we were being force-fed dry toast.Â
Flynn: Son of Crimson is a deluxe hot chocolate. I just want to snuggle into an armchair and reward myself with a solid, unbroken couple of hours with my hands wrapped around it. It feels like a video game in the purest terms, a frothy adventure with little in the way of friction or annoyances. And it rewards your attention by being deep and rich.
A hand-crafted 2D action platformer which promises to take you on a journey through discovery and redemption, Flynn: Son of Crimson has today arrived on PC and console - and it's quite possibly a game you won't want to miss.Â
Visual novels come in so many different forms these days that there’s something for everyone; whether you want horror, mystery, romance, comedy, or anything else. The folks over at Woodsy Studio have released an otome visual novel, Crimson Spires, which appears to fit into quite a few different sub-genres simultaneously. The last time I played one of their games though, Echoes of the Fey: The Fox’s Trail, it left me baffled and occasionally disinterested due to the complexity of the lore, but did at least impress in the way it attempts to tackle numerous social issues. Can the mysterious Crimson Spires keep its audience on tenterhooks for the duration, or will it be another offering that fails to captivate?
There are a million and one roguelike clones on the market, but the Darkest Dungeon: Crimson Edition promises to bring much more than just permadeath and randomness. How do you fancy twisted forests, ruined crypts, a massive array of foes, a turn based combat system and a host of gameplay meaningful quirks?
Crimsonland was originally released in 2003 for Windows PC, and since then has gathered a huge fan community. In 2012, the game was submitted to Steam Greenlight, resulting in it becoming a huge hit in the Steam community. In 2014, 10tons decided to remaster it in order to release the game on the next-gen consoles, with PS4 the first to get it. Now it has reached Xbox One gamers...and being a fan of this insane game, I couldn’t be happier.
