As someone who has spent many years gaming, one series that has often popped up and piqued my interest is the Dynasty Warriors series. My first time playing was back in the early 2000’s with Dynasty Warriors 3. Back then Dynasty Warriors had already become synonymous for being a quality hack-and-slash adventure that allowed players to take on hundreds, if not thousands, of enemies within each and every sandbox style level. Since that point, the series has seen countless releases with the latest coming in the form of Dynasty Warriors 9.
So, we’re back once more with the next entry in TheXboxHub’s ‘Looking back at’ series as we take a gander at another title celebrating an anniversary - Dynasty Warriors 6, which celebrates it’s 10-year birthday this week. It may not be the first entry in the series, but as a long-standing series that has had a longer lifespan than even Xbox itself, Dynasty Warriors 6 is certainly no bad place to start.
It’s one of gaming’s longest running series, but that doesn’t mean we’re anywhere near the end of the line for the fantastic Dynasty Warriors series. Today sees another entry join the franchise as Dynasty Warriors 9 has arrived on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Samurai Warriors 5 is no doubt the best iteration of the mainline series, be it Dynasty Warriors or Samurai Warriors (or even the Warriors Orochi spin-off). As it stands right now, this is as good as it gets for the Warriors series. It has a lot of ideas and systems which integrate in an interesting way, and the core gameplay is as fun as ever. The only caveat here is that the core gameplay loop present feels no different to that which we’ve experienced for the last two decades, and inevitably it will run thin.
It’s quite clear Bandai Namco have been on a roll since the beginning of 2020 with their anime-inspired releases, both in terms of quality and quantity. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot got them off to a flyer, before One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows and My Hero One’s Justice 2 further delivered solid experiences. There’s room for yet another major anime and manga series to get its chance to shine now though; step forward One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. Can this fourth instalment, and the first to launch on Xbox One, continue the recent trend by being a game to treasure?
Visual pop-in and map confusion aside, this game is a great deal of fun, and with so many characters to choose from finding your ideal team has never been so challenging. If you have enjoyed the previous games in the series, then this is a no brainer, but if you haven't then Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate could well be the stepping stone you need.
It may have taken KOEI TECMO five years or so to deliver the next installment in the WARRIORS OROCHI series with WARRIORS OROCHI 4 but it seems that they certainly aren't done there as today the Ultimate Edition has rocked up, pushing on with new stories and game modes.
Down with the Warriors Orochi series? Fancy getting yourself involved with a thrilling new entry? Warriors Orochi 4 Ultimate is coming - and it'll be hitting Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC in the early stages of 2020.
Ready to fight another battle? The worlds of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors have combined to bring us Warriors Orochi 4.
Slated for release in mid-October, Warriors Orochi 4 will seemingly be all about the characters - at least if the reveal from KOEI TECMO America is anything to go by!
E3 is over but the big news just keeps dropping, and today KOEI TECMO America have announced the full release date for the latest instalment in the one-versus-thousands action game series - Warriors Orochi 4.
Pinch, punch, it's the first of the month...and that means Xbox One owners get to save a huge amount as Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate gets stripped of its price tag thanks to the Games With Gold scheme.
Chivalry may not mean much to some people, but to many folk, especially in the medieval ages, the Chivalric Code was a great code of conduct around Europe, and the way of living one’s life. Nowadays things like this have long disappeared into the most distant throws of history, but in some parts of the world, similar lifestyles continue. One such way that’s relatively unknown in western culture is the way of Bushido - the Japanese term for the samurai way of life. Something which bears similarities, albeit minor ones, to the Chivalric Code. When I first set eyes on Black & White Bushido this was the first thing that came to mind. Probably because other than the Dynasty Warriors and Warriors Orochi series, there isn’t really much else that really takes gaming to the deep and historic depths of Asian folklore. But could Black & White Bushido be the next fighting game to make the most of those many years of history, or was I hoping for too much.
Bladestorm was first released back in 2007 on the Xbox 360, so let’s take a look at Bladestorm : Nightmare the next-gen upgrade. Koei Tecmo are well known for their Dynasty Warriors series, and while the promise of a much more strategic affair will appeal to a new audience there’s still plenty of the Dynasty Warriors style in Nightmare.
Forget all those too-big-to-fail AAA games, blending together to become a flavourless broth of open worlds and 100-hour campaigns. It’s the next tier down where the real juice is: where you’ll find the wacky high concepts, the left-field experiences, the bad voiceovers. We’re not afraid to say it: we love the AA game. Yes, it’s our way of saying that there’s no real blockbuster releasing in June 2021. Welcome to the quiet before the E3 storm. This is the month for niche re-releases, unexpected sequels, weirdo indies and abstract RPGs.
