If I've said it once, I've said it a million times - there seems to be an endless stream of Neogeo titles attempting to draw in the modern day gamer. And whilst we should never be found complaining about the opportunity to take in new games, the constant re-release of titles from decades gone past is slowly getting to silly heights.
But hey, let's not worry too much about how the digital libraries around the globe are getting filled with retro feasts, and instead focus on the latest game to make the hop from Neogeo to Xbox One - that of ACA NEOGEO Samurai Shodown V.
May 2017 saw Samurai Shodown arrive on Xbox One, ported over from the original SNK title which first released back in 1993. That was swiftly followed by Samurai Shodown II from 1994. Can you guess what we have here today? Yep that's right - 1995's Samurai Shodown III!
Just a few months ago, Samurai Shodown arrived on the Xbox One to bolster the then sparse ACA NEOGEO series of games. Now it’s time for the sequel to get a look in and bring the nostalgia flooding back.
Looking for the definitive SamSho experience? The Samurai Shodown NEOGEO Collection is the one you are looking for, and today it launches on Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
There definitely seems to be a little bit of a theme here. Not only do we have another weekly addition of a NEOGEO title on Xbox One, but this one brings yet another Samurai Shodown title to the console.
From the moment we first saw Turf Masters and Metal Slug appear on the Xbox One Games Store a couple of months back, we never thought that the whole Neo Geo library would be coming to Xbox One. But slowly and surely it seems that is becoming the case as two more titles rock up.
Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last few months, you would have realised that numerous ACA NEOGEO titles have made their way to Xbox One. Now, there's another - The Last Blade!
Nostalgia eh? It’s a funny old thing and make no mistake, it seems that at the moment there is a real fad happening for re-releasing old games on modern generation consoles. By and large this is a good thing. As I referred to in my Metal Slug review, I never had a Neo Geo as a kid, and consequently have never played any of these game that are hitting the store. This time, it is the turn of Sengoku to get the treatment, a game which first released way back in 1991, when this reviewer was a fresh faced 18 year old with the world at his feet. So, 26 years on, has time been kind to Sengoku, or should it have stayed a memory?
We've seen a flurry of old NEOGEO classics hit the Xbox One Games Store in recent weeks, with gamers split between whether heading back nearly 30 years is a good or bad thing. Today though, another SNK stunner has arrived - SENGOKU.
