Previously only confirmed for launch on PC, thanks to a new partnership between Spitfire Interactive and Daedalic Entertainment, Capes will now also be coming to console - Xbox, PlayStation and Switch.Â
Years of the brilliant Marvel Cinematic Universe has painted the superhero franchise in a much more happy-go-lucky light than the comic readers would have expected. Well, that all changes now. It is time to unleash the darker side of Marvel in Marvel’s Midnight Suns, out today on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Amazing Superhero Squad fluffs it. What should have been a deep and strategic hero simulator is instead a shape-matching game with the shallowest of gameplay puddles to splash around in. We thought being Nick Fury for a day would be fun; as it turns out, it’s as mundane and simple as putting on his eyepatch every morning.
You may have thought that the MCU had the whole superhero thing sewn up. You'd be wrong, for today the Amazing Superhero Squad team up on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch. And there's not a hint of Marvel magic in sight.Â
Deadpool the game was only ever meant to be throwaway - a taco in game form - and Deadpool wouldn’t have wanted to enter the milieu of an important game. He would have hated that more than anything.
We fly through the air with Superman, leap from building to building with Spiderman and prowl through the midnight streets with Batman. We all wish we were as heroic (and as rich) as Iron Man, and we all aspire to be as incorruptible and as brave as Captain America. The closest we can come to emulating our heroes, other than dressing up in a costume and going full-scale vigilante, is by taking on their personas in a video game.
With Square Enix presenting gameplay of the new Avengers game at E3 2019 and with the release of Sony’s Spider-man on PS4 last year it is fair to say we may be heading into a new golden age of Superhero games on consoles. While watching the videos that were released of the new title, I began thinking about Superhero games that I had enjoyed over the last 10 years since Arkham Asylum’s release. I remembered there were a number of them that surprised me with how good they actually were and after looking online and speaking to friends discovered they had little fanfare, or people simply wrote them off for being movie tie-ins despite some being reviewed well.
I wanted to speak to you all about just a handful of these titles so that they may get some of the recognition they deserve, but also so you can enjoy some hidden gems of the genre.
