What tennis games should you play on Xbox? And do any of them hit the heights found in Top Spin and Virtua Tennis? Grab your racket and get ready to hit some balls - these are the best tennis games for Xbox that you can play today.
Timing (as they say) is everything and that is certainly true here. Matchpoint - Tennis Championships has arrived smack bang in the middle of Wimbledon, offering up a cross platform tennis simulator to satisfy those summer sports urges.
The tennis world may have been in the news for all the wrong reasons over the last couple of weeks, but just as the Australian Open looks set to allow players to hit a few balls in anger, Kalypso Media and Torus Games have come to town, announcing that Matchpoint - Tennis Championships will be coming to PC and console in the very near future.
If you're on the lookout for a decent tennis game, chances are you're going to be a little disappointed, for aside from AO International Tennis from back in 2018, there have been few highlights on the scene. But one of the most recent options is that of Tennis World Tour 2, and it is that which has now received a bit of an enhancement thanks to the arrival of Andy Murray, Maria Sharapova and more in the Champions Pack. Kinda.
Tennis World Tour 2 - Complete Edition on Xbox Series X is fun for a time, but falls short of the line. Even if you’re a fan of the sport, there’s not enough here to justify the price tag.
Even though the virtual tennis scene has become rich with content in the last couple of years, not one attempt at recreating the aces, the bass-line plays, the back-hand smashes or the deep lobs have really paid off. We may still be waiting on the next-gen goodies to smash their way to the courts of Tennis World Tour 2, but before we get to feast our eyes on some extra glorious visuals, the team at NACON are continuing to push out new content for their game - and today we find a couple of new tennis superstars drop in for action.
Tennis World Tour 2 is the most comprehensive tennis experience on the market, giving players the chance to play solo, with friends, across a career, through tournaments and with some of the best well-known stars of the game, at some of the most iconic venues. Having first released on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch back in September, NACON and Big Ant Studios have today confirmed that the game will be coming to next-gen consoles and have celebrated that fact by dropping a couple of new players onto the court.
The old glory days of TopSpin offered some of the best tennis we’ve ever had the joy of trying. Many have attempted to emulate its success but none have succeeded. Whilst the original Tennis World Tour had some good points and focused on some nice areas, it fell flat instantly with janky controls and just a general carelessness. Its follow-up, Tennis World Tour 2, attempts to fix this but fails in many of the same areas.
