We're well used to dropping into the world of the Viking across some great games. Today we do it once more, as the mini metroidvania Runnyk releases on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch.
It’s Owlboy that the D-Pad Studios team are best known for, but very soon they’ll be bouncing back, delivering the colourful cooperative capers of Vikings on Trampolines to PC and console.
Aery - Vikings glides pretty close to all the Aery games that have come before it. It is as serene and welcoming as its flight-sim forebears, but also as glitchy.
This little Aery bird manages to get about a bit, doesn’t it? In 2022 alone it has been to A New Frontier, Calm Mind 2 and Dreamscape. Now, it is heading up north to the land of exquisite beards and braids in Aery – Vikings, out today on Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PC and PlayStation.
Say what you want about how Ubisoft go about making games, but there's no debate that they are capable of providing super rich experiences, those which don't just entertain but inform as well. This has been no more prevalent with their Assassin's Creed franchise - a series of games which draw in anyone with a hint of an historian hit. But it's with their Discovery Tour where Assassin's Creed and Ubisoft go to town, with that of Viking Age now becoming available.
I get the impression that the Vikings would have enjoyed UNO. It can’t have all been about pillaging and invading, they must have enjoyed their downtime too. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla we got to see them enjoying rap battles and dice game, so how about a game of UNO or two to go with their mead? Find out how the Vikings play cards with the UNO Valhalla DLC, available now on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.
It was back in May when we first heard rumblings of Apsulov: End of Gods, and how exactly it would be coming to current and next-gen consoles in the near future. That future has arrived with release today on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch.
Viking horror, anyone? Apsulov: End of Gods is getting set to deliver just that to Xbox, PlayStation and Switch this summer, with both digital and physical versions in the works.
Chess Knights: Viking Lands on Xbox is pretty unique and the mash-up between Vikings and chess is one that I could never have imagined would work. But as a puzzler, it does - even if the control scheme doesn’t particularly help matters. On the whole though the puzzles are clever and if you're into your brain teasers then you can't go wrong with what's on offer here.
Being honest, the Xbox Games With Gold freebies for March 2021 were a tad disappointing. But hey, let's not dwell on the past and as April looks to kick into gear the Games With Gold scheme is once more providing a number of free games to Xbox Live Gold subscribers across the coming month. And yep, this time round the selection is a whole load better. At least it is depending on who you ask.
