Rugrats Adventures in Gameland is now available

A timeless cartoon like Rugrats can disappear for years, but it is never truly forgotten. And that is certainly the case here as a brand-new Rugrats game releases in the form of Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland, over 20 years since the series aired its final episode.

It is time to roll up those diapers as Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland is out today on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Let their imagination run wild

In the Pickles’ household, an advert has just shown a new Reptar videogame. Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil know that they need to play this game for themselves, and will stop at nothing to do so. A portal around the back of the TV leads the way to Reptar, but in order to open it, they need to collect coins.

And how do they collect coins? By pretending they’re in a video game of their own!

By taking inspiration from some classic Rugrats episodes, Adventures in Gameland features 2D platforming levels with coins hidden within. Just because they’re babies, don’t think they’ve been given an easy ride though. Heavily inspired by the classic NES games of the ‘90s, these babies will have to work hard to collect all the coins.

Retro inspired, retro playable

As it is so heavily inspired, Adventures in Gameland goes one step further. As well as the game presented in the traditional cartoon setting, the game is also fully playable in 8-bit visuals, with 8-bit audio to boot. It is so much more than just adding a quick filter to the screen.

So, pick your favourite baby, grab a cookie and set them off on their next great adventure.

For some true nostalgia, Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland is on the Xbox Store now priced at £20.99, playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Let us know in the comments who your favourite Rugrat is and whether you will be picking this one up.

The game is also on PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

Game description

When Tommy, Chuckie, Phil and Lil see a commercial for the new Reptar video game, they pretend that they’re in a video game of their own! Toggle between beautiful 8-bit and HD art, select your favorite baby and play solo or co-op in Rugrats: Adventures in Gameland, a neo-retro platformer.
