Survival horror fans on Xbox can now step back into one of the genre’s cult favourites, as DreadOut Remastered Collection launches on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
Priced at £24.99, bundling together two spine-chilling experiences, this collection brings the original DreadOut and its standalone companion DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark to Xbox players in one haunted package.
Developed by Digital Happiness and published by Soft Source, this release marks the first time the remastered collection has arrived on Xbox, following previous launches on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation platforms.
A Supernatural Horror Rooted In Atmosphere
At the heart of DreadOut is Linda, a high school student whose routine field trip spirals into something far more sinister. Stranded in an abandoned town seemingly frozen in time, Linda soon discovers that she is not alone – and that something deeply unnatural lurks in the shadows.
Unlike traditional horror games that rely on firearms or brute force, DreadOut places survival in the lens of a smartphone and SLR camera. Ghostly entities can only be confronted by photographing them, forcing players to face horrors head-on rather than hide from them.
Puzzle-solving, exploration, and supernatural encounters are tightly woven together, creating a tense experience where every corner could spell disaster.
Keepers Of The Dark Expands The Nightmare
Also included is DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark, a standalone chapter that deepens the lore and raises the stakes. Transported into the eerie Mirror Realm by the mysterious Lady in Red, Linda must survive eight haunted dominions filled with more than a dozen deadly spirits.
Progression in Keepers of the Dark is shaped by player decisions. The doors you open, the paths you choose, and the risks you take all influence Linda’s fate. It’s a more focused, intense experience that leans heavily into survival mechanics and relentless horror.
More Than Just The Games
DreadOut Remastered Collection goes beyond simply bundling two titles together. It also includes a wealth of additional content that expands the universe and its mythology.
Players will find:
- DreadOut: The Untolds Webcomic – 12 high-resolution episodes exploring hidden moments from Linda’s journey
- Official DreadOut Manga – Over 100 pages created by Indonesian artists
- Original Soundtrack – Featuring Indonesian indie bands and atmospheric compositions by Adhitia Sulistiana Wibisana and Pratama Kusuma Putra
These extras help flesh out the unsettling world of DreadOut, offering fans more insight into its characters and folklore.
From The Studio Behind DreadOut 2
Xbox players may already be familiar with the series through DreadOut 2, which we reviewed back in 2022, awarding it a 3/5 score. At the time, we said:
“DreadOut 2 does a good job of creating an interesting, open-world adventure that has an exemplary use of a camera as the weapon of choice… However, the story is hard to follow and at times things are more than a bit clunky.”
DreadOut Remastered Collection offers a chance to experience where it all began, with a more focused horror structure that laid the groundwork for the sequel.
