Out of Words – coming to Xbox, PlayStation and PC in 2026

In a world of digital gloss and procedural generation, a new adventure is being meticulously crafted by hand – an adventure that is Out of Words!

Epic Games Publishing has unveiled Out of Words, a beautiful co-op platformer adventure born from a unique collaboration between developer Kong Orange (Felix the Reaper), stop-motion specialists WiredFly, and acclaimed poet Morten Søndergaard.

This stunningly tangible adventure is set to launch in 2026 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

A Truly Handcrafted Adventure

Out of Words stands apart with its incredible artistic vision. Every character, every environment, and every object you see in the game has been carefully designed and physically crafted using stop-motion animation techniques.

This unique development process, driven by a trifecta of creativity from game developers, puppet masters, and a poet, aims to tell a story with a distinctly human touch.

The game is based on an idea by Morten Søndergaard, and it tells the story of the first time two characters, Kurt and Karla, held hands. As these two handcrafted heroes, players will explore a wild, colourful realm on a journey to find their lost voices.

A Journey for Two

This is an adventure designed to be shared; very much like one of our favourite games of recent times, It Takes Two. Out of Words is a dedicated two-player co-op experience that can be played either via online cross-platform multiplayer or classic couch co-op.

Teamwork is essential to progress. Together, you and a friend will need to solve physics-defying puzzles in ancient catacombs and perform daring stunts among the clay skyscrapers of the city of Nounberg. The gameplay requires constant cooperation, communication, and perfect timing between you and your co-player to overcome the many challenges that lie in your path.

A Story About Finding The Words

The narrative of Out of Words is as important as its unique visuals. As Kurt and Karla become entangled in a battle for the future of their world, their own budding relationship is also at stake. You will traverse the wonders and dangers of this strange land while experiencing a story about falling in love.

The game poses an intriguing question: Kurt and Karla may be able to save this wonderland, but at what cost to themselves and their connection?

With its heartfelt story and breathtaking stop-motion art style, Out of Words is shaping up to be a truly special and memorable co-op experience.

You’ll be able to find pages up on the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, and the Epic Games Store soon. Prepare to find the words, and perhaps a bit of love, when this beautiful adventure arrives in 2026.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
