It’s the age-old fight that shows no sign of slowing down. Yep, the Samurai Warriors are back to do battle once more in Samurai Warriors 5.

Releasing today on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, with next-gen playability on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, Samurai Warriors 5 from Koei Tecmo has been some 7 years in the waiting. Now though the new instalment in the tactical action battler is here, delivering players the chance to take in the dazzling thrills of the Warriors action like never before.

Samurai Warriors 5 comes to market with a £54.99 price tag attached (at least on the Xbox Store, other format prices may vary slightly) and getting involved will cover you with a tale that focuses on the lives of two officers – Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi – as the stories and characters known throughout the Samurai Warriors world get a bit of a revamp.

“The original SAMURAI WARRIORS was released 17 years ago, and it’s amazing for me to see the transformation of the series from its roots all the way up to the incredible SAMURAI WARRIORS 5,” says Producer, President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of KOEI TECMO Games, Hisashi Koinuma, who has spearheaded the franchise’s development from day one. “I hope everyone is ready to experience SAMURAI WARRIORS like never before!”

It will provide all the usual Samurai Warriors flair that you have come to know and love over the years, but as our full review of Samurai Warriors 5 on Xbox points out, this is one of the best mainline Warriors experiences yet. It comes with a plentiful amount of ideas and systems and the visual style is one that is hugely appreciated. Granted, the core gameplay loop which has seen the series right for years is still present, and that may mean that it soon tires, but on the whole, if you’re a fan of the Warriors franchise, you should be going all out with this latest offering.

Kicking around alongside the standard edition is that of Samurai Warriors 5 Digital Deluxe Edition for £79.99. This adds in some tasty little treats, mostly in the form of the Season Pass and some Deluxe Edition bonuses as follows…

  • – Special Blade Rift Blade
  • – Special Katana Masterpiece
  • – Special Spear Sharpened Fang Spear
  • – Special Bow Sky Piercer
  • – Special Horse
  • – Special Skill Gem Set
  • – Items

That Season Pass is available as a £26.99 individual purchase too, whilst the free costumes for Mitsuhide Akechi and Nobunaga Oda can also be grabbed.

Let us know in the comments if you decide to jump into the fray with Samurai Warriors 5. You’ll find it available on the usual Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Switch and PC stores.

Game Description:

After a 7-year wait, a new instalment in the tactical action series “SAMURAI WARRIORS” is finally here! With this title, the historical period depicted in the first title of the “SAMURAI WARRIORS” series released in 2004 has been revamped. With visuals that have largely evolved since the first “SAMURAI WARRIORS”, additional WARRIORS officers, and evolved actions, an even deeper drama set in the warring states is depicted. Also, with a focus on the lives of officers Nobunaga Oda and Mitsuhide Akechi, in order to more intensely and boldly depict the warring states era spanning from the end of the Ōnin War to the Incident at Honnōji, the title is the beginning of a new series, in which the stories and characters from the traditional “SAMURAI WARRIORS” have been revamped.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
