A new era awaits but should you play Anno 1800 on Xbox or PlayStation?

anno 1800

If it’s a city building real-time strategy game you have been after, then you’ve probably cast a jealous eye the way of PC players and the fun they’ve had with the Anno series. Finally though it’s time for a new era of building to take place, as Ubisoft deliver Anno 1800 to Xbox and PlayStation.

Downloadable and playable right now on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, Anno 1800 is a game that needs to make the most of the new-gen power found in the very latest consoles. For that reason, Anno 1800 is not playable on Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

The magic can happen thanks to the Ubisoft Mainz team as they bring the city builder to console for the first time, giving players the chance to show off their leadership skills, as they build gigantic metropolises, set up efficient and profitable logistical networks, colonise an exotic new continent, charter expeditions to the four corners of the globe, and dominate their opponents diplomatically, commercially or militarily.

It’s something that us console players have been calling for for years, and it’s for that reason the release of Anno 1800 on Xbox and PlayStation is so exciting. It’s priced around what we would expect of such a game too, with Ubisoft slapping a £34.99 price tag on the Standard Edition of Anno 1800. Pay up that amount and you’ll gain access to the base game, thrown into the Industrial Age as you get to experience one of the most exciting periods in history.

You don’t have to play alone either, and whilst Anno 1800 is set for a solo player, online options are in place, allowing for full PvP and cooperative modes. The question is, how will the world see you?

Alongside that Standard Edition is the Anno 1800 – Deluxe Edition for £44.99. You’re getting a digital art book chucked in alongside the base game, plus a game soundtrack and access to the Imperial Pack and Console Founder Pack.

And further still are multiple other DLC options to help complement the base game. Priced at £3.99 each are all of the following…

Which of the DLC packs will you be adding to your game?

So, Anno 1800 is on Xbox and PlayStation, with the key features including…

  • THE DAWN OF A NEW ERA: Prove your skills as you create huge cities, plan logistic networks, settle lush new continents, send out expeditions around the globe, and dominate opponents by diplomacy, trade, or warfare. BUILD YOUR OWN EMPIRE by constructing large metropolises, managing a thriving economy, and protecting your creations from others. To guide your cities to prosperity, you’ll need to learn to adapt to any situation that arises.
  • A UNIQUE CITY-BUILDER EXPERIENCE: Includes a story-based campaign, customizable sandbox mode, and a multiplayer experience.
  • NEW FEATURES FOR A NEW AGE, through expeditions across the globe to seek fame and fortune and a new workforce feature that will make the management of your factories more demanding and realistic.
  • DIFFERENT WAYS TO PLAY: You decide what you want your game to be! Challenge yourself with a variety of AI characters or focus on building and beautifying a huge empire.

The Xbox Store will provide the download you need in order to play Anno 1800 on Xbox Series X|S, whilst the PlayStation Store should do the same for PS5 users.

Stick around for our full review. We’re slap bang in the middle of the Industrial Revolution and will be sure to deliver our full thoughts as to how this one plays on Xbox soon. With Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition proving that PC exclusives can now work on console, hopes are high for this one.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
