Hell is Us
Hell is Us – now available on Xbox, PlayStation and PC

A dark and mysterious journey that we’ve been following for years has finally reached its destination. Hell is Us, the highly anticipated third-person action-adventure from developer Rogue Factor, is available to play right now, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC for those who purchase the Deluxe Edition.

This is a game that strips away the hand-holding of modern titles to deliver a pure, instinct-driven adventure, and it’s one we’ve already had the pleasure of reviewing and awarding a huge score.

The Deluxe Edition (ÂŁ65.99) grants you 72 hours of early access, with the Standard Edition (ÂŁ49.99) set to launch in a few days on September 4th.

A Hostile World, A Dark Secret

In Hell is Us, you take on the role of Rémi, a protagonist on a quest to find his origins in a country ravaged by civil war. But the war is not the only threat. The region is suffering from a mysterious calamity, which has given rise to supernatural creatures reminiscent of ancient monuments. These cannot be defeated by any modern weapon, and you must unravel the mystery of their appearance.

What makes Hell is Us so compelling is its “Player-Plattering” approach. There is no map, no compass, and no quest markers. The game encourages reflection and observation, forcing you to follow your instincts as you explore. Your discoveries are yours and yours alone.

Combat Against Original Creatures

To survive, you will need to master a system of intense melee combat. You’ll have access to a wide range of weapons specially forged for fighting these supernatural creatures, including swords, spears, and axes. You will need to learn how to fight these monsters and use your drone, KAPI, wisely to stay alive.

A Journey We’ve Been Following for Years

Our journey with this game started way back in 2022, when we first reported on the news that Hell is Us was a new Unreal Engine 5 game. We then followed up earlier this year when the Hell is Us release date was finally confirmed.

We’ve now had the chance to go hands-on, and in our glowing 4/5 review of Hell is Us, we concluded:

Hell is Us feels like a great proof of concept game. There is a superb job done in the crafting of environments and world that is satisfying to explore and solve. The dark representation of war, with themes like displaced populations, mass death, religious persecution, and even moral detachment of invading forces tell a compelling story.

And further to all that? We’ve only gone and dropped Hell is Us into our most anticipated new Xbox and Game Pass games for September 2025.

How to Play Early: The Deluxe Edition

If you want to jump into this acclaimed adventure today, you’ll need to purchase the Hell is Us – Deluxe Edition for ÂŁ65.99. This edition not only grants you 72 hours of early access but also includes:

  • The Hollow Walker Pack: an exclusive skin for Remi and his drone KAPI.
  • The Phol Guard Pack: another exclusive skin for Remi and his drone KAPI.
  • An exclusive investigation.
  • The Art Pack: including the digital artbook and original soundtrack.

Is Hell is Us on Game Pass?

At launch, initial access to Hell is Us is via the Deluxe Edition, providing early access over the Standard Edition. Neither of these are intertwined with that of Game Pass though, and so, at launch, you cannot play Hell is Us via Game Pass. Of course, there’s a chance that could change in the future.

And Hell is Us is not an Xbox Play Anywhere title either.

Key Features

  • An Instinct-Driven Action-Adventure: Explore a hostile world with no map, no compass, and no quest markers.
  • A Dark, Compelling Story: Uncover the secrets of a mysterious calamity in a country ravaged by civil war.
  • Intense Melee Combat: Fight supernatural “chimeras” with a variety of specially forged weapons and your trusty drone.
  • A 4/5 Reviewed Experience: A critically acclaimed title praised for its world-building and satisfying exploration.
  • Early Access Available: Play right now by purchasing the Deluxe Edition.

A dark secret is waiting to be uncovered, and your instincts are your only guide. If you’re a fan of challenging, atmospheric action-adventures that reward curiosity and skill, Hell is Us is ready for your investigation on the Xbox Store right now. The Standard Edition rolls come September 4th 2025.
