Recently, platforming enthusiasts have been spoiled with compilations of our childhood classics. The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy were recently followed up with the Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series. This next collection may not feature a household name, but it offers four games for the price of one. Toree’s 3D Platformer Collection is out today on Xbox.
Designed with the early machinations of 3D platforming in mind, there are four games included:
- Toree 3D – including Toree Jumbled Jam extra levels
- Toree 2 – including winter themed levels
- Macbat 64
- Regina & Mac
You may be asking yourself at this point who even is Toree? They may not be the most well-known character, but they have been kicking around for a while on other hardware. This marks their first time on Xbox having previously been on Nintendo Switch and PC. Their arrival on Xbox also brings 4K and 60FPS for Xbox One X and Series X|S, achievements and leaderboards, a time attack mode on all four games and visual improvements.
If you tackle these games in the order above, then you will encounter these tropes in this order too. Toree 3D is a very standard platforming adventure. Toree 2 shifts focus to a more speed-running adventure. Macbat 64 is a pocket-sized platforming with a flying bat. And finally, Regina & Mac attempts to emulate the platforming styles of Banjo-Kazooie and Super Mario 64.
