A Week In The Hub: 11th-17th May 2014

Another week has gone by and the Xbox juggernaut just keeps on rolling through, pounding everything around it into submission. But what were the best Xbox news and reviews stories from the last week?

Well let us tell you!

We were all sitting back happily waiting for the big news to start coming out of E3 in a few weeks time and so the news that Xbox have hit us with these last seven days has come as a bit of a shock. Firstly, they announced that the current Deals With Gold scheme will be expanded to include numerous discounts for Xbox One titles from June. A big second hit came in with the news that discounts weren’t the only Xbox One addition coming in June and it’s super exciting to also see two free One games come about each month via the Xbox Games With Gold promotion. It’s been something we’ve chatted with numerous gamers about other the last few months and so confirmation is very welcome.

And then there was something that no-one predicted….A Kinect-less Xbox One will be available from June 9th. Whilst we love our Kinect (and TBH couldn’t do without it), we appreciate that many want a cheaper console to just game on without all the fancy tricks and traps. Whether it’s a good call, only time will tell.

To end the week, the big dogs at Xbox HQ have also started rolling out the latest Xbox One System Update with all the latest bells and whistles attached. The rollout is currently ongoing but by the time you read this, hopefully you’ll have received it and already be enjoying the enhanced sound mixer, speech recognition and more.

There were also a number of new games announced or released this past week, with the following being the real big deals that you’ll want to swat up on:

We also told you about the latest Titanfall update patch, whilst bringing you the most up-to-date Titanfall Expedition trailer. If you’re more a race fan than a FPS’er, you’ll no doubt want to get a little more excited about GRID: Autosport by reading about the Touring Cars mode and checking out the full car list, getting ready for the in-depth online modes or by watching the latest Autosport gameplay video.

And then finally from us this week, we’d like to point you in the direction of our latest reviews.

We checked out The Amazing Spider-man 2 and The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 3: In Harm’s Way both on the 360 and also managed to fit in a good few sessions of Super Time Force on the Xbox One. All three bring something entirely different to the gaming party and whilst you may want to give the first a miss, there should be nothing on this earth from stopping you playing the other two. They’re pretty great!

Cheers guys.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
