Can you believe it’s May already? The Xbox world keeps on revolving and this last seven days have seen no letup in the Xbox One and Xbox 360 news, reviews and opinions. But what were the best? Let us tell you!

The week kicked off with a bang, a Call of Duty Black Ops III bang! Treyarch are back with what could well be the most futuristic FPS yet, as a new breed of super soldier ushers in a whole new generation of gaming…and it didn’t take long for the pre-order and pre-downloads to arrive on Xbox One either. November can’t come soon enough for many and whilst Advanced Warfare was good, we fully expect Black Ops III to blow it out of the water!

And that was just the start of the week. After being wowed by the Black Ops reveal, we were lucky enough to quickly be hit by another as the first gameplay trailer for Just Cause 3 was released. Showing explosions, grappling guns and all manner of mayhem, we expect big things from Just Cause 3 and the leap to the latest generation of console should mean the fun we had back on 360 with the previous games will be back in full flow when the game releases over the holiday 2015 period.

If you can’t wait as long as the end of the year, then it won’t be long before Batman Arkham Knight appears on our consoles. It seems like an age ago that we first heard news of the June 2015 release, but that has come round rather quickly. As is the way, the hype machine is slowly gathering momentum and the recently released season pass and premium edition details gave us the opportunity to get even more hyped. Batman Arkham Knight is going to be good – there is no debating that – but just how good will it be? If this weeks screenshots are anything to go by, then it could just be the best Batman game to date. Yes, better than Arkham Asylum.

But by far the most exciting news of all has to be something that was thrust upon us late in the week. Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country are cult classics and so the news that the main guys behind those games have come together to form Playtonic Games is an exciting proposition… but bringing a whole new platformer to Xbox One, PS4, Wii U and PC as well is just the icing on the cake.

Yooka-Laylee has been announced with a Kickstarter campaign and you really should want to get involved. Whilst the game will release no matter how much funding is received, the cash tiers on offer are well thought out (we especially like the Insert Coin Tee level) and should ensure that the cool £1 million needed to launch the game simultaneously on all formats will be reached. We’re super excited to see what Playtonic have in store for the latest platformer and whilst we may still be 18 months or so away from an estimated release, the hype for Yooka-Laylee is already reaching stratospheric levels!

Whilst I’m here, it would be wrong if I didn’t remind you that the latest Xbox Games With Gold titles are now available to download. We had a bumper crop of free games in April and May in comparison looks to be a bit weak, but you still should be downloading Castlestorm: Definitive Edition on Xbox One and Mafia II on 360 right now. They are both decent games and are more than worthy of a look!

As is WE ARE DOOMED on Xbox One. Our review of the latest Xbox One twin-stick shooter is up and running; we tell you that although it isn’t a Geometry Wars 3 killer, it’s worth a shot anyways. That said though, if you’ve only got the cash for one new game this week, then our review of Mortal Kombat X will no doubt see you moving towards that. Warner Bros and NeverRealm Studios have brought us something pretty special and X is quite possibly the greatest Mortal Kombat game yet.

We also got to take a look at the Marvel Age Of Ultron Pinball FX2 table. You can read our review of that right here.

Don’t forget, we are also giving away two 12 month Xbox Live Gold subscription codes. Fancy getting involved? Enter now.

See you soon!

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore. Gamertag is neil363, feel free to add me to your list.
