The last 7 days have seen a few huge news stories come out from the world of Xbox and so we take a look back at the very best bits from the last week.
We have to start by welcoming in a new Head of Xbox. Phil Spencer has grabbed the bull with both hands and will lead the teams at Xbox, Xbox Live, and the creative teams including Xbox Music, Xbox Video and Microsoft Studios as they deliver us the next generation of great games and top entertainment. With over 80 million Xbox owners the world over, Phil has been quick to come out and say that gaming will be at the fore of the Xbox brand in the coming years. Whilst Xbox has many strings to its bow, gaming is still the one thing that most of us want to see from the brand and it’s good to hear the main man come out with that being right at the top of his thoughts. One of Phil’s first jobs will no doubt be to placate the Xbox One world with a Games With Gold program for the latest console. It’s something that Xbox One owners have been calling for ever since the start of the year but as it stands, Games With Gold is still tied exclusively with Xbox 360.
And that brings us nicely onto the current Games With Gold promotion. April is now with us and that means it’s time to see a couple more games get stripped of their price tags and be given away for free to all Xbox Live Gold members. Currently available is possibly one of the best games to be added to the promotion so far, Hitman Absolution. Wear the suit of the ultimate assassin, take on the ability to blend into plain sight, kill with your bare hands and fashion a weapon from almost anything. You are Agent 47, the world’s deadliest assassin and until the 15th April, you can be him for free. Make sure you don’t miss out as after that time you’ll find it back up at it’s normal price, with your free download instead being Deadlight.
Also out for free this week was the demo of EA Sports 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil. The full game isn’t out for another couple of weeks but the demo will give you a nice little look at what you’ll be getting and whilst you’re waiting for your download to complete, you may as well have a read of our thoughts. Is it a World Cup winner or will it be knocked out in the Quarter Finals? We let you know exactly what you’ll be getting with the latest FIFA title and whilst on the football subject, did you notice last weeks Ultimate Team Team of the Week? IF Bale anyone?
If you’re looking for something a little different (and are happy to pay out), then why not check out this weeks Xbox Live Arcade release? Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate Deluxe Edition has possibly the longest name in videogame history but fans of the Bat will no doubt be more than happy to pay out to experience even more of the Arkham story and delve a little deeper into the history of the caped crusader.
Before we finish up this week I’d like to point you in the direction of a few other very interesting posts:
- We have details of the Xbox One April System Update right here. Friend notifications, a new Smartglass app and more mean the Xbox One continues to get better and better.
- The first downloadable content for South Park The Stick of Truth is also now available. New costumes and abilities are always much appreciated.
- The EA Sports UFC roster is getting bigger by the day. We’ve added even more names to the list and you’ll want to make sure you check it out before the game drops later this Spring.
And finally, something rather exciting.
You may or may not know that currently running on Kickstarter is a cracking little project by the guys at Snowcastle Games. Earthlock: Festival of Magic will be a Role-Playing game with a few little tricks up its sleeve. The story takes you to the magical world of Umbria which for some reason stopped spinning on its axis. One side of the land is cold and dark whilst the other sizzling in the sun, leaving just the bit in-between habitable. Your role will be as Amon, a scavenger who gets dragged into a dangerous conflict between the Suvian Empire and those who wish to bring Suvia to its knees. In a bid to unite the land and encourage peace, you must begin a quest that will uncover the secrets behind Umbria’s standstill situation.
We’ve been taken aback by how good the game looks and by Snowcastle for it’s ambitious (but doable) plans for Earthlock but without your help, the game may not ever see the light of day. Hop over to it’s Kickstarter page to help them out by pledging or sharing to the world because the Festival of Magic is something we ‘d love to see on Xbox One next year.
Thanks for reading and we hope to catch you on one of our social media channels or in a game on Live sometime soon.
